Nasal cannula having improved and asymmetrical flow control
11666723 · 2023-06-06 · ·

A nasal cannula includes a distribution conduit running along a virtual distribution path. The distribution path defines a longitudinal direction and has two branch openings. A respective supply conduit branches off from each branch opening. The distribution conduit also has two coupling openings arranged spaced apart from the branch openings. The nasal cannula has a plug via which one of the two coupling openings can be sealed as a closure opening. Another of the two coupling openings is designed as a supply opening. The plug has a flow-directing configuration with an exposed flow-directing surface. In a reference state in which the plug is closing the closure opening, the flow-directing surface is arranged in the distribution conduit in the longitudinal extension region of at least one branch opening and positioned relative to the distribution path to deflect treatment gas flowing in the distribution conduit from the supply opening along the distribution path towards at least one of the branch openings.

Microfluidic manifold for shear sensitive fluids

A microfluidic device is provided. A manifold having a first channel, a second channel, and a third channel configured to transport blood can be coupled to a substrate defining an artificial vasculature. The first channel can be configured to carry blood in a first direction. Each of the second and third channels can couple to the first channel at a first junction and can be configured to receive blood from the first channel. The second channel can be configured to carry blood in a second direction away from the first direction. The third channel can be configured to carry blood in a third direction away from the second direction. The first, second, and third channels can be non-coplanar.

Dry powder inhaler and system for drug delivery

A breath-powered, dry powder inhaler, a cartridge, and a pulmonary drug delivery system are provided. The dry powder inhaler can be provided with or without a unit dose cartridge for using with the inhaler. The inhaler and/or cartridge can be provided with a drug delivery formulation comprising, for example, a diketopiperazine and an active ingredient, including, peptides and proteins such as insulin, oxyntomodulin and glucagon-like peptide.

Surgical drain

A medical drain sensor is provided located in a region of a drain tube which has turbulent or re-circulatory exudate flow. Means are provided in some embodiments to promote or enhance such flow.

LEAK CONTROL SYSTEM FOR AN INSUFFLATION SYSTEM, AND A METHOD FOR MINIMISING LEAKAGE FROM AN INSUFFLATION SYSTEM
20220305217 · 2022-09-29 · ·

A leak control system (26) for an evacuation system (12) of an insufflation system (1), for controlling leakage of insufflating gas from a vessel (5) of a subject being insufflated. An evacuation conduit (20) connects a Venturi vacuum creating device (14) to the vessel (5) through a pressure relief valve (27) operable from a closed state to an open state in response to a pressure drop across the pressure relief valve (27) in the direction of the arrow A exceeding a predefined pressure drop value. The vacuum creating device (14) is operable in response to a signal from a pressure sensor (10) detecting pressure in the cavity (5) exceeding a predefined pressure value for applying a vacuum to the evacuating conduit (20) to increase the pressure drop across the pressure relief valve (27) to the predefined pressure drop value, for in turn operating the pressure relief valve (27) into the open state. On the pressure in the vessel (5) being reduced below the predefined pressure value, the vacuum creating device (14) is deactivated, and the pressure relief valve (27) transitions into the closed state, thereby preventing further leakage of insufflating gas though the Venturi vacuum creating device (14).

IV FLOW REGULATOR
