Methods and system for reserving torque for engine starting
Systems and methods for operating a hybrid vehicle are described. In one example, a torque reserve for starting an engine via an electric machine is adjusted responsive to vehicle operating conditions. The torque reserve may set aside a portion of torque that an electric machine may produce for cranking and starting an engine.
CONTROL APPARATUS FOR VEHICLE
A control apparatus for a vehicle that is provided with (i) an engine, (ii) a first starting device including an electric motor and a high-voltage power supply device, such that the first starting device cranks the engine by using the electric motor, (iii) a second starting device including a starter motor and a low-voltage power supply device, such that the second starting device cranks the engine by using the starter motor, and (iv) various kinds of electrical equipment operable by an electric power supplied from the low-voltage power supply device. In a case in which start of the engine by cranking the engine by using the first starting device has failed and then the start of the engine by cranking the engine by using the second starting device has failed, the control apparatus cranks the engine by using the second starting device again.
Driveline disconnect clutch operating methods and system
Systems and methods for operating a driveline of a hybrid vehicle are presented. In one example, a boost phase of a procedure to close a driveline disconnect clutch may be cut short in response to an engine changing state from not rotating to rotating so that the engine may be restarted in an alternative way. The system and methods may also predict a degraded engine start from a low engine cranking speed or a long cranking time duration so that the engine may be started in an alternative way to increase a possibility of starting the engine and decrease the severity of degraded driveline disturbance.
Power supply system for watercraft
A power supply system for a watercraft includes a first battery, a second battery, and a battery management device. The battery management device connects the first battery to a first engine to supply an electric power from the first battery to start the first engine. The battery management device connects the second battery to a second engine and a third engine to supply an electric power from the second battery to start the second engine and the third engine.
Self-contained, stand-alone power generator
A self-contained, stand-alone power generator system comprising: an electric motor for applying torque to a shaft of a rotating mass, wherein the electric motor is powered by a dedicated power source; a battery for supplying additional power to the electric motor upon start up; at least one of a torque converter and a starter motor, for overcoming resting inertia of the rotating mass; a generator head coupled to the rotating mass, wherein the power generator is constructed such that when the generator head reaches operational speed, the generator head provides the additional power to the electric motor and recharges the battery.
SUPPLEMENTAL STARTING SYSTEM
The disclosure is directed to a system and method for providing supplemental power to start one or more cranking motors. The supplemental starting system includes a starting-signal isolator configured to connect to one or more electrical starting-signal wires providing starting signal to one or more cranking motors, a resetting relay electrically connecting to the starting-signal isolator, a programmable logic controller (PLC) electrically connecting to the resetting relay, a supplemental battery relay electrically connecting to the starting-signal isolator and the PLC, a supplemental battery electrically connecting to the supplemental battery relay, and a positive output-terminal electrically connecting to the supplemental battery relay. When an output of the starting-signal isolator is higher than a threshold voltage, the resetting relay and the supplemental battery relay are configured to be in a close state, so that the supplemental starting system is configured to provide electricity to one of the one or more cranking motors.
Intermittent restart for automatic engine stop start system
A disclosed method of automatically stopping and restarting a vehicle engine determines if one or more stop/start enablement condition has been met. If the stop/start enablement condition or conditions have been met, the method initiates an engine shutdown. If a restart request is made before the engine reaches a predetermined threshold speed, then a first restart sequence is initiated. If a restart request is made when the engine speed is less than the predetermined threshold speed but still greater than 0, then a second restart sequence is initiated.
Apparatus and method for starting engine of mild hybrid electric vehicle
An apparatus for starting engine of mild hybrid electric vehicle may include: an ignition switch; an ambient temperature detector; a state of charge (SOC) detector; a mild starter & generator (MHSG) including a stator and a rotor mounted inside the stator; a starter which is configured to start the engine independently of the MHSG; a converter which is configured to voltage-drop an electric power of a high voltage battery and supply it to the low voltage battery or the starter; an MHSG wheel rotating integrally with the rotor; an MHSG position detector; and a controller configured for determining a top dead center (TDC) of a predetermined cylinder based on a signal of the MHSG position detector.
Power distribution device between an electric starter and an electric machine towards a shaft of a turbomachine
A power distribution device between an electric starter of a turbomachine and an electric machine toward a shaft of the turbomachine, including the electric starter, the electric machine, and a controller for controlling the electric machine. An epicyclic train reducer includes a first element intended to be coupled to the shaft, a second element coupled to the electric starter, and a third element intended to be rotated by the electric machine. The controller is configured to rotate the third of the three elements so as to obtain two bearings of reduction ratios of the speeds between the first of said three elements and the second of the three elements. The controller is configured to drive the torque of the third of the three elements in accordance with a determined output torque.
