Wildlife deterrence system arranged in wind turbine blade
Systems and methods are disclosed for deterring wildlife, such as bats and birds, from drawing too proximate to an operating wind turbine. Wildlife species may be sensitive to transmitted frequencies, such as ultrasonic frequencies above the range of human hearing. For example, bats may avoid areas where ultrasonic frequencies are being emitted, either because the emitted ultrasonic frequency interferes with the echolocation of the bat, or because encountering the ultrasonic frequency is uncomfortable for the bat. In some aspects, acoustic transmitters may be arranged along a length of a blade of a wind turbine. A controller may direct the acoustical transmitters to transmit signals having ultrasonic frequencies to deter wildlife encounters. The controller may direct the transmitters to transmit only during periods where wildlife encounters are likely to occur (e.g. at night, during migration seasons, during favorable weather conditions, or the like).
Bird or bat detection and identification for wind turbine risk mitigation
An automated system for mitigating risk from a wind turbine includes a plurality of optical imaging sensors. A controller receives and analyzes images from the optical imaging sensors to automatically send a signal to curtail operation of the wind turbine to a predetermined risk mitigating level when the controller determines from images received from the optical imaging sensors that an airborne animal is at risk from the wind turbine.

Blade adapter for wind turbines
A blade adapter for rotor blades of wind turbines, for increasing the rotor diameter, has a first end for attaching to the rotor hub, and a second end, spaced apart in the axial direction, for connecting to the blade root of a rotor blade. In addition, the blade adapter, at its first and second end, has a pitch circle for connecting to the rotor hub or to the rotor blade, wherein the wall of the blade adapter extending in the axial direction is open outwardly, in the form of a truncated cone, from the first end toward the second end, in at least one portion.
Monitoring low-flying airplanes
The invention relates to a system for actuating signal transmitters that are arranged on aviation obstacles, which are obstacles for low-flying airplanes, and signal transmitters for optically warning the airplanes or the pilots thereof, having the following features: a) at least one large-area radar system which is designed to detect airplanes flying at very low altitudes and which is arranged at a location remote from the aviation obstacles, b) at least one computer device which is coupled to the large-area radar system so as to transmit signals and which is designed to evaluate the data provided by the large-area radar system, said data relating to detected airplanes, and to provide such data to other systems via a data connection, and c) at least one data connection between the computer device and multiple aviation obstacles and/or groups of aviation obstacles, wherein d) the computer device is designed to output activation signals for the signal transmitters of aviation obstacles which are being approached by an airplane flying at a low altitude on the basis of the data transmitted by the large-area radar system. The invention further relates to a system for providing data relating to airplanes flying at very low altitudes, to a device comprising a signal transmitter device for aviation obstacles, and to a corresponding actuation device.
