ROTATIONAL PUMP AND METHOD

A downhole pump including a mandrel defining a passageway therein and defining an inlet to the passageway that allows fluid ingress to the passageway from an environment outside of the mandrel and defining an outlet from the passageway that allows fluid egress from the passageway, a blade extending from the mandrel and sized for a close clearance fit in a tubular into which the pump is intended to be used, the blade upon rotation of the mandrel causing a fluid flow regime in a direction across the blade, into the inlet, through the passageway, out of the outlet and back to the blade.

A method of handling a gear pump, the gear pump including a driving gear wheel having a plurality of driving teeth and a driven gear wheel having a plurality of driven teeth meshing with the driving teeth, the method including controlling the gear pump in a testing mode including commanding driving of the gear pump to pump liquid towards a downstream device and commanding an increase of rotational speed of the gear pump; monitoring rotation values indicative of the rotational speeds during the testing mode; monitoring pressure values by means of at least a downstream pressure sensor during the testing mode, the downstream pressure sensor being arranged to measure a downstream pressure of the liquid between the gear pump and the downstream device; and determining at least one operational condition of the gear pump based on the pressure values and the rotation values.

Gear pump having through-shaft bearing weepage control

A pump includes a front plate, a gear plate and a rear plate. A drive shaft has a drive gear, an arbor has a driven gear engaged with the drive gear, and first and second bearings are disposed in the gear plate. The first and second bearings receive the drive shaft and the arbor. The rear plate has drain ports adjacent ends of the drive shaft and the arbor. The arbor has an opening such that media that passes between the first bearing and an outer surface of the arbor is directed to the second drain port via the opening. A drain bushing is positioned against the front plate, and includes an opening for the drive shaft. The drain bushing has a chamber and a radial port. When pumped media passes between the first bearing and the drive shaft it is directed to the chamber and out the radial port.

A gerotor pump assembly, and a system and method for operating a gerotor pump assembly, result in a lubrication strategy for operating in a loss-of-prime mode. An inner drive gear may be rotated in a first direction and in a second opposite direction about an axis of rotation. The inner drive gear has a number of projections extending outwardly therefrom. An outer driven gear surrounds the inner drive gear and defines a number of recessions along an inner surface configured to engage with the projections of the inner drive gear. The outer driven gear and the inner drive gear further define at least one dynamically-changing fluid cavity therebetween. The inner drive gear and the outer driven gear define an oil transfer volume clearance between a projection and a recession in a fully engaged position. Oil is maintained within the oil transfer volume clearance as the inner drive gear is rotated.
