Fixed-Eccentricity Helical Trochoidal Rotary Machines

Rotary positive displacement machines based on trochoidal geometry that includes a helical rotor that undergoes planetary motion relative to a helical stator are described. The rotor can have a hypotrochoidal-based cross-sectional shape, with the corresponding stator cavity cross-sectional shape being the outer envelope of the rotor cross-sectional shape as it undergoes planetary motion, or the stator cavity can have an epitrochoidal-based cross-sectional shape with the corresponding rotor cross-sectional shape being the inner envelope of the stator cross-sectional shape as it undergoes planetary motion. Such machines can be configured so that the stator axis is spaced from the rotor axis, the rotor is configured to spin about its axis and the stator is configured to spin about its axis, and/or the rotor and the stator are held at a fixed eccentricity so that the rotor undergoes planetary motion relative to the stator, but does not orbit.

A rotor for a mud motor includes a core having a first outer shape, and a shell positioned around the core, the shell having a second outer shape that is different from the first outer shape, the second outer shape defining one or more lobes and one or more cavities that are configured to engage a bore of a stator during rotation of the rotor relative to the stator. A thickness of the shell varies as proceeding around the core, from a non-zero minimum thickness to a maximum thickness.

UNDERCURED STATOR FOR MUD MOTOR

A stator for a mud motor and methods for manufacturing and using the same, of which one such method includes obtaining a mud motor having a stator made at least partially from a rubber. At least a portion of the rubber is cured by at most about 90%. The method also includes deploying the mud motor into a well as part of a drill string. The rubber is not further cured prior to deploying the mud motor into the well. The method further includes generating torque using the mud motor by pumping a mud through the stator.

Submersible pump assembly

A pump assembly includes an electric motor and different selectable pump covers, and is suitable for mounting within a transmission fluid reservoir for transferring automatic transmission fluid. The pump assembly includes a stator housing having a cylindrical cavity for receiving ATF contained in the transmission fluid reservoir. A rotor is rotatably coupled within the cylindrical cavity and has a plurality of magnets arranged about a rotational axis thereof. A flux collector is coupled with the stator housing adjacent to the cylindrical cavity for transferring magnetic flux from one of the plurality of magnets from a first portion to a second portion thereof. A hall sensor is disposed proximate the second portion for sensing magnetic flux in the flux collector, such that the magnetic flux is used to determine a rotated position of the rotor.

A progressive cavity pump includes a sealed drive between the rotor and universal joint. The universal joint includes a socket configured to receive a drive shaft of the rotor. A cover, such as a locking nut, is disposed over the connection between the rotor and universal joint. Seals are retained in place by the locking nut to prevent abrasive materials from entering into the interface between the rotor and the universal joint.

Automatic pump control

Systems, methods, and a computer readable medium are provided for automatically controlling a pump in an oil production environment. Sensor data can be collected from pump machinery and can be used to generate an advisory statement identifying a change in pump operation in regard to one or more operating conditions. The advisory plan can be used to determine an optimization action plan to maintain the operation of the pump machinery with respect to the operating conditions. The optimization action plan can include an action, a parameter, and a parameter variable and can be transmitted to a computing device configured within a supervisory control and data acquisition system and coupled to the pump machinery. The computing device can execute the optimization action plan to control the pump machinery with respect to the operating conditions.
