An interoperative light therapy apparatus and method are disclosed. The apparatus includes an excitation light source, a plurality of light emitting devices and a plurality of light detecting fibers, wherein the plurality of light emitting devices produce a fluorescence light in cancerous cells of a patient treated with a photosensitizing medication. The fluorescence light is collected by the plurality of detector fibers and a digital spatial image of the cancerous cells is produced. The digital spatial image is useful for targeting the cancerous cells in a subsequent resection procedure. An interoperative light therapy apparatus is disclosed that further include a therapy light source that can deliver therapy light to the cancerous cells using the digital spatial image in the subsequent resection procedure.

The present invention provides for devices and methods of treating wounds, including general wounds, gum disease and gingival tissues post scaling/root planning, using a diode laser which generates a beam of light having a wavelength in the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum (400 nm-700 nm). Further disclosed are devices and methods capable of stimulating tissue regeneration at the site of a wound.

Peripheral light-emitting linear light guide member and method for manufacturing the same
11693177 · 2023-07-04 · ·

A peripheral light-emitting linear light guide member is composed of an optical fiber including a core having an outer periphery surface exposed from a cladding at one end in a longitudinal direction, and a light-scattering member covering an entire periphery of the outer periphery surface at an exposed portion of the core over a predetermined axial length range. The light-scattering member scatters a light emitted from the outer periphery surface of the core. In the light-scattering member, light-scattering particles are dispersion-mixed with an optically transparent base material having a higher refractive index than a refractive index of the core. An amount of the light-scattering particles around an outer periphery of the core is higher at a distal end of the light-scattering member than at an end closer to the cladding.

Earpiece and method for forming an earpiece

A device includes an electromagnetic radiation delivery system such as a laser of light emitting diode infrared emitter configured for delivery of electromagnetic radiation within a sealed canal such as an ear canal, a fiber optic cable configured for delivering or capturing the electromagnetic radiation within the sealed canal, and a photo detector coupled to the fiber optic cable forming a portion of a voice communication system. Other embodiments are disclosed.

PHOTOTHERAPY DEVICE

The present disclosure provides a method for treating ischemic stroke by illuminating a skin surface to reduce free radical generation in subsurface target tissues (e.g., the brain following an ischemic event). The method utilizes a waveguide that receives light from a light source. The waveguide is placed adjacent a skin surface of a patient and the waveguide emits light that passes through the skin surface and illuminates a subsurface target tissue. The waveguide includes light-extracting features configured to emit light at a target angle relative to the surface tissue. That is, the light-extracting features alter a trajectory of light emitted by the waveguide, such that a larger percentage of light emitted by the light guide has an angle that is +/−25 degrees off of a center line of the light guide.
