The APU defines a bleed air outlet and is configured to regulate a BAT of a bleed air flow generated by the auxiliary power unit. The BAT sensor is positioned at a remote BAT location that is outside the bleed air outlet of the APU. In another embodiment, the auxiliary power system includes an APU configured to generate a bleed air flow, an APU controller configured to receive and transmit signals, and a BAT sensor suite configured to measure the BAT of the bleed air flow and to generate a BAT signal that is based, at least in part, on the BAT.

A conduit system communicates a portion of the compressed air from the compressor to the starter. A load control valve controls compressed air from the compressor to the starter and to other loads. A starter air valve controls compressed air through the conduit system to the starter. At least one controller: receives a start signal from the engine; determines whether to initiate a bowed rotor mitigation of the engine; operates either the load control valve or the starter air valve to move to a predetermined static position; and operates the other of the load control valve or the starter air valve to achieve a target speed of the engine.

A system and method for supplying compressed air from an auxiliary power unit to a main engine starter motor. The inlet guide vanes are controlled using either first or second inlet guide vane control logic and the surge control valve is controlled using either first or second surge control valve control logic. When the first inlet guide vane control logic is used, the inlet guide vanes are positioned based on a demand signal, when the second inlet guide vane control logic is used, the inlet guide vanes are positioned based on a demand schedule, when the first surge control valve logic is used, the surge control valve can be commanded to repeatedly move to only a fully-closed position and a fully-open position, and when the second surge control valve logic is used, the surge control valve can be commanded to the fully-closed position only when maximum flow is commanded.

The starter supplemental lubrication system includes a pneumatic starter operable to drive rotation of a rotor shaft of a gas turbine engine through an accessory gearbox. The pneumatic starter is configured to receive a primary lubricant flow at a first rotational speed range and receive a supplemental lubricant flow at a second rotational speed range that is less than the first rotational speed range. The starter supplemental lubrication system also includes a supplemental lubricant pump operable to supply the supplemental lubricant flow at the second rotational speed range. The supplemental lubricant pump is internal to the pneumatic starter.
