An airfoil vane includes an airfoil section which includes an outer wall that defines an internal cavity. A baffle is situated in the internal cavity. The baffle includes a leading edge portion and a trailing edge portion which is bonded to the leading edge portion at a joint. The leading edge portion and the trailing edge portion define an internal cavity therewithin. Both the leading edge portion and the trailing edge portion include a plurality of cooling holes which are configured to provide cooling air to the airfoil outer wall. The trailing edge portion is formed of sheet metal and the leading edge portion is formed of non-sheet-metal. A method of making a baffle for a vane arc segment and a method of assembling a ceramic matrix composite airfoil vane are also disclosed.
Monolithic combustor for attritiable engine applications
A monolithic combustor apparatus comprises an outer casing comprising a forward flange, a fuel manifold disposed on the outer casing and defining an annular chamber extending perimetrically around the outer casing, a combustor liner disposed within the outer casing, the combustor liner defining an annular combustion chamber, a first annular plenum disposed between the outer casing and the combustor liner, an inner liner disposed radially from the combustor liner, a first inner flange extending forward from the combustor liner, and a second inner flange extending radially inward from the first inner flange.

A steam turbine blade includes a blade body (7) including blade surfaces (70) extending in a blade height direction. The blade body (7) includes a first suction port (74) extending in the blade height direction and opening in the blade surface (70), a first drain flow path (75) internally extending in the blade height direction, and first communication passages (76) internally provided away from one another in the blade height direction and independently of one another and making the first drain port (74) and the first drain flow path (75) in communication with each other.
Unit cell structures including stiffening patterns
Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture are disclosed for a structure of an engine component, including a first plurality of unit cells offset from a neutral plane in a first direction, a second plurality of unit cells offset from the neutral plane in a second direction, a plurality of nodes joining ones of the first plurality of unit cells and ones of the second plurality of unit cells, wherein the first plurality of unit cells and the second plurality of unit cells are arranged in pairs such that ones of the first plurality of unit cells are laterally adjacent to and interconnected with ones of the second plurality of unit cells, and wherein the structure is a stiffened structure.
Ceramic matrix composite airfoil cooling
Airfoils for gas turbine engines are provided. In one embodiment, an airfoil formed from a ceramic matrix composite material includes opposite pressure and suction sides extending radially along a span and defining an outer surface of the airfoil. The airfoil also includes opposite leading and trailing edges extending radially along the span. The pressure and suction sides extend axially between the leading and trailing edges. The leading edge defines a forward end of the airfoil, and the trailing edge defining an aft end of the airfoil. Further, the airfoil includes a trailing edge portion defined adjacent the trailing edge at the aft end of the airfoil; a plenum defined within the airfoil forward of the trailing edge portion; and a cooling passage defined within the trailing edge portion proximate the suction side. Methods for forming airfoils for gas turbine engines also are provided.
Methods of customizing, manufacturing, and repairing a rotor blade using additive manufacturing processes and a rotor blade incorporating the same
An airfoil member having a root end, a tip end, a leading edge, and a trailing edge, the airfoil member including an upper skin; a lower skin; and a support network having a plurality of interconnected support members in a lattice arrangement and/or a reticulated arrangement, the support network being configured to provide tailored characteristics of the airfoil member. Also provided are methods and systems for repairing an airfoil member.
Smoothing round internal passages of additively manufactured parts using metallic spheres
A method for smoothing surface roughness within an internal passageway is disclosed. In various embodiments, the method comprises developing a first sphere progression through a length of the internal passageway, each sphere within the first sphere progression having a first sphere diameter greater than or equal to a diameter of the internal passageway; and developing a second sphere progression through the length of the internal passageway, each sphere within the second sphere progression having a second sphere diameter greater than the first sphere diameter, whereby the inner surface of the internal passageway is smoothed, first by the first sphere progression and then by the second sphere progression.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A PREFORM MADE OF WOVEN REINFORCEMENT FIBERS HAVING A VARIABLE CROSS-SECTION
The present disclosure provides a method for manufacturing a preform made of reinforcement fibers woven in a longitudinal direction. The preform is impregnated with resin in order to form an elongated element having a variable transverse cross-section. In one form, the method includes the step of simultaneously including a reduction (or increase) in width and an increase (or reduction) in height. The variable cross-section includes, along the length thereof, a consistent number (c) of continuous warp threads arranged in layers. The method for reducing width includes carrying out a change in weave, adding additional weft threads, and simultaneously drawing the teeth of the longitudinal beater reed closer together so as to increase the number of layers.
