A system and method for determining performance of an engine is provided. The system includes two or more sensors configured in operable arrangement at two or more respective positions at a flowpath. The system includes one or more computing devices configured to perform operations, the operations include acquiring, via the two or more sensors, parameter sets each corresponding to two or more engine conditions different from one another, wherein each parameter set indicates a health condition at a respective location at the engine; comparing, via the computing device, the parameter sets to determine the respective health condition corresponding to the respective location at the engine; and generating, via the computing device, a health condition prediction based on the compared parameter sets.
Oil life of oil in a gearbox of an air turbine starter
A system and method for predicting a remaining oil life of oil in a gearbox of an air turbine starter of a vehicle. The method includes generating a temperature data, generating an environmental data set by an environmental sensor, predicting a remaining oil life based on the temperature data set and the environmental data set and scheduling a maintenance event in response to the prediction of the remaining oil life.

A control system for turbine systems configured to utilize an intelligent model of particulate presence and accumulation within turbine systems to address engine maintenance, erosion, corrosion, and parts failure mitigation is disclosed. The control system may build an intelligent model of fluid flow based on the data value measured by at least one sensor and based on a database of known data values to provide an estimation of amount of ingress of air intake particles into the turbine system, fouling within the turbine system, erosion of at least a portion of the turbine system, and performance degradation rate of the turbine system.
CUSTOMIZED BLEND LIMIT FOR GAS TURBINE ENGINE AIRFOILS
A method of developing a suggested blend repair to an airfoil includes the steps of: (a) storing history with regard to a particular airfoil in a particular engine; (b) taking information with regard to new damage to the particular airfoil; (c) reaching an initial blend recommendation based upon step (b); (d) assessing whether the initial blend recommendation of step (c) would be appropriate to repair the new damage based upon a consideration of steps (a)-(c); and (e) reporting a final blend recommendation. An airfoil repair recommendation system is also disclosed.
METHOD OF DETERMINING DELIVERY FLOW OR DELIVERY HEAD
A torque required to achieve the modulated reference speed or adjustment of a modulated torque and the actual speed of the centrifugal pump is determined. Then a model speed is calculated with the aid of a mathematical pump-motor model simulating the behavior of the centrifugal pump within a hydraulic system as well as a disturbance signal from a deviation of the model speed from the actual speed of the centrifugal pump. Then a correction signal is determined by integrating the product of the disturbance signal and a sine or cosine signal with a multiple of the excitation frequency over at least one period of the excitation signal. Finally, at least one model parameter of the pump-motor model is determined as a function of the correction signal and the flow rate and/or the head is calculated using the adapted pump-motor model.
METHOD OF CONTROLLING A TEST APPARATUS FOR A GAS TURBINE ENGINE AND TEST APPARATUS
The method allows to control a test apparatus for a gas turbine engine; WI values of one or more tentative fuel gas mixtures are predicted by calculations and the predicted WI values are used for setting the composition of a fuel gas mixture to be supplied to a combustor of a gas turbine engine under test. The test apparatus comprises: a first supply flow line for fuel gas; a second supply flow line for inert gas; a mixer with a first inlet for fuel gas and a second inlet for inert gas, and with an outlet for supplying the mixture of fuel gas and inert gas to the combustor; a set of meters; and a flow control device for the inert gas.
Gas Turbine Engine with Lifing Calculations Based Upon Actual Usage
A method of monitoring a gas turbine engine includes the steps of: (a) receiving information from actual flights of an aircraft including an engine to be monitored, and including at least one of the ambient temperature at takeoff, and internal engine pressures, temperatures and speeds; (b) evaluating the damage accumulated on an engine component given the data received in step (a); (c) storing the determined damage from step (b); (d) repeating steps (a)-(c); (e) recommending a suggested future use for the component based upon steps (a)-(d). A system is also disclosed.
ADAPTIVE FUEL FLOW ESTIMATION WITH FLOW METER FEEDBACK
According to an aspect, a correction factor for a fuel flow of a fuel system of an engine is determined. A nominal fuel flow is determined based on a metering valve stroke. The correction factor is applied to the nominal fuel flow to produce an estimated fuel flow to control combustion in the engine.
