Articles for high temperature service and method for making
Articles having coatings that are resistant to high temperature degradation are described, along with methods for making such articles. The article comprises a coating disposed on a substrate. The coating comprises a plurality of elongated surface-connected voids. The article further includes a protective agent disposed within at least some of the voids of the coating; the protective agent comprises a substance capable of chemically reacting with liquid nominal CMAS to form a solid crystalline product outside the crystallization field of said nominal CMAS. This solid crystalline product has a melting temperature greater than about 1200 degrees Celsius. The method generally includes disposing the protective agent noted above within the surface connected voids of the coating at an effective concentration to substantially prevent incursion of CMAS materials into the voids in which the protective agent is disposed.
Differentiated shortening of strands of the fibrous reinforcement of a fan blade
The invention relates to a fan blade (3) of a turbomachine (15) comprising a structure (4) made of composite material having, within the root (5) and/or the stilt (6) of the blade, a first layer (11) comprising the lower face (16) and having a first thickness (E1) of between 10% and 25% of the total thickness (E), a second layer (12) comprising the suction face (17) and having a second thickness (E2) of between 10% and 25% of the total thickness (E), and a central layer (13) extending between the first layer (11) and the second layer (12), the shortening of the warp strands (9) in the first and second layers (11, 12) being greater than the shortening of the warp strands (9) in the central layer (13).
PROCESSES, GAS TURBINE PROCESSES, AND FUEL COMPOSITIONS
A gas turbine process includes supplying a fuel to a gas turbine, combusting the fuel in the gas turbine with a hot gas path temperature reaching at least 1100 C. during operation of the gas turbine, and supplying an inhibition composition including at least one yttrium-containing inorganic compound to interact with the vanadium and inhibit vanadium hot corrosion in the gas turbine caused by vanadium as a fuel impurity in the fuel. A process includes supplying an inhibition composition including at least one yttrium-containing inorganic compound to a hot gas path or a combustor of a gas turbine. A fuel composition includes a fuel including at least one fuel impurity including vanadium and an inhibition composition including at least one yttrium-containing compound. An atomic ratio of yttrium to vanadium in the fuel composition is in a range of 1 to 1.5.
NOSE CONE FOR A FAN OF AN AIRCRAFT ENGINE
A nose cone for a fan of an aircraft engine that comprises a cone part of fiber-reinforced material. It is provided that an elastomer is integrated into the cone part. The invention further relates to a fan and an aircraft engine with such a nose cone.
Turbocharger waste-gate valve bushing
A turbocharger for an internal combustion engine includes a rotating assembly having a turbine wheel disposed inside a turbine housing and a compressor wheel disposed inside a compressor cover. The turbocharger also includes a waste-gate assembly configured to selectively redirect at least a portion of the engine's post-combustion gases away from the turbine wheel. The waste-gate assembly includes a valve, a rotatable shaft connected to the valve, and a bushing fixed relative to the turbine housing and disposed concentrically around the shaft such that the shaft rotates inside the bushing for opening and closing the valve. The bushing is defined by a length, an outer surface in contact with the turbine housing, and an inner surface in contact with the shaft. The inner surface includes a plurality of longitudinal grooves configured to counteract friction between the bushing and the shaft and avoid seizure of the shaft relative to the bushing.
Consumable coatings and methods of protecting a high temperature component from dust deposits
A coated component may have a consumable coating that protects the component from dust. A coated component may include a silicon containing substrate defining a substrate surface, a barrier coating on the substrate surface, with the barrier coating defining a barrier surface, and a consumable coating on the barrier surface. The consumable coating may include a ceramic oxide that includes a silicate. A component, such as a component of a turbomachine, may be protected from dust by applying a consumable coating on the component.
