A fastening system to couple a first aircraft structure and a second aircraft structure is disclosed. The fastening system includes a fastener, a nutplate having a body defining an opening to receive the fastener, a flange extending from the body to engage an outer surface of the first structure, and a first sleeve protruding from the flange in a direction away from the body, the first sleeve to couple to a first bore formed in the first structure and prevents rotation of the nutplate relative to the first structure.

Tapered lead-in for interference fit fasteners
11168721 · 2021-11-09 · ·

An assembly comprising first and second structural elements having aligned holes, a fastener that occupies at least respective portions of the holes without a surrounding sleeve, and a mating part that is coupled to the fastener. The fastener comprises: a head; a circular cylindrical shank extending from the head; a mating portion comprising external projections; and a transition portion disposed between the shank and the mating portion. The transition portion comprises a tapered lead-in section that meets the shank at a shank/lead-in intersection and a radiused lead-in section that meets the tapered lead-in section. The tapered lead-in section tapers gradually in a first axial direction toward the mating portion and has a first profile that is linear and a taper angle equal to or less than 20 degrees, while the radiused lead-in section curves abruptly in the first axial direction and has a second profile that is a circular arc having a radius.

System for securing together by means of press-fitting a casing and a cover of a housing element

A housing element for applications in the manufacturing industry having a casing and a cover both made of metallic material, wherein the casing is provided with a groove and a flat mounting surface and the cover is provided with an end portion having a frustoconical side wall, an oblique annular bottom wall, and a securing system consisting in inserting the end portion of the cover inside the groove of the casing, wherein an interference (i) between a radially outer end of the end portion of the cover and a radially inner end of the flat mounting surface of the casing assumes values of between 0.2 mm and 0.5 mm and an angle (δ) defined between the frustoconical side wall of the end portion of the cover and the flat mounting surface of the casing assumes values of between 45° and 80°. The interference and the angle facilitate the insertion of the end portion of the cover inside the groove of the casing.

Screw For a Touch-Proof Plug Connection

A screw for a touch-proof plug connection includes a screw body and a touch protection device. The screw body has a screw head and a screw shank extending from the screw head along a screw-in direction to a screw tip. The screw tip has a connecting element. The touch protection element has a connection device on a coupling side. The connection device is a connection counterpart to the connecting element and connects the touch protection element to the screw body. The touch protection element has an electrically insulating surface on a front side that points in the screw-in direction in a connected state of the screw body and the touch protection element.

Apparatus for fastening and/or aligning objects

The invention provides a radially expanding fastener/alignment plug assembly for use with a torque power tool, the assembly including: a sleeve member (10), insertable into a hole of an object, having radial expansion elements with inner surface portions which are tapered towards a first end; an expanding member (20), insertable in the sleeve member, having an outer surface portion which is tapered towards a first end, cooperating with the inner tapered surface portions of the radial expansion elements of the sleeve member; and a displacement member (30) formed between a second end of the sleeve member and a second end of the expanding member. Advantageously, the assembly is self-reacting allowing an actuation torque to be applied to and reacted upon to create high levels of pulling and expansion force without the need for an external reaction point.
