A post coupler expands laterally. The post coupler includes a first member that is hollow and has a first slanted face. A second member is also hollow and has a second slanted face that is abutted with the first slanted face. A rod extends through the first and second members; the rod has a head that is disposed at a head end and threads disposed at a thread end. A nut is engaged with the threads, and rotating the nut causes the first member to extend in a first lateral direction and causes the second cylindrical member to extend in a second lateral direction opposite the first lateral direction.

The connector assembly joins first and second hollow tubular elements. The connector assembly includes an anchor plug inserted into the first hollow tubular element, and having a second anchor plug opening that is elongated. A connector fitting is inserted into an end of the second hollow tubular element, and has a receiving portion to receive an exterior surface of the first hollow tubular element. The connector fitting includes an elongated-shaped receiver extending inward from the receiving portion, and includes a fastener receiver at a bottom of the elongated-shaped receiver. A torsion bar is configured to extend between the anchor plug and the connector fitting, and includes a tapered top defining a wedge. In operation, when a fastener is positioned and tightened, the bottom of the torsion bar is rigidly secured within the elongated-shaped receiver of the connector fitting, and the tapered top of the torsion bar is rigidly secured within the anchor plug via the second anchor plug opening.

A composite/metal joint includes a composite member, a metallic member, a cylindrical liner, and a fastener. The composite member has a first aperture. The metallic member is disposed adjacent to the composite member and has a second aperture coaxially aligned with the first aperture. The cylindrical liner extends longitudinally from a first end to a second end. The cylindrical liner has a cylindrical outer liner surface and a longitudinally extending third aperture coaxial with the first and second apertures and defined by an inner liner surface. The cylindrical liner is disposed in the first and second apertures with the outer liner surface adjacent to aperture walls of the first and second apertures. The cylindrical liner has a plurality of grooves intersecting the outer liner surface. The fastener is disposed through the third aperture of the cylindrical liner and is configured to attach the metallic member to the composite member. An outer surface of the fastener is in direct contact with the inner liner surface.

Joint member of composite and joint structure

A joint member is formed of a composite including reinforcement fibers and resin. The joint member is configured to be joined with another joint member to form a joint structure capable of enduring a tensile load in a load direction in which the joint member and the other joint member are separated from each other at a joined portion of the joint structure in a longitudinal direction of the joint member. The joint member includes a main body part and a joint part connected with the main body part at an end part of the main body part in the longitudinal direction of the joint member. The joint part has an orientation pattern having anisotropy such that fiber directions of the reinforcement fibers included in the joint part include a fiber direction different from the longitudinal direction of the joint member.
