Disclosed is retainer for a nut. The retainer is positioned within the frame that provides access to a closure. The closure, in turn, is secured by way of a removable cover. The cover is removably secured to the frame by way of a series of bolts and corresponding nuts. The nuts are secured by way of the retainer to allow the bolts to be secured. Each retainer includes upper and lower opening and an internal area. The upper opening is preferably angled such that the nut must be oriented at an angle in order to be inserted into the retainer. The internal area of each retainer includes a ledge with an angled step. The angled step function is rotating the nut to a horizontal orientation after it has been inserted into the retainer. Thereafter, a user can access the nut with a finger through the lower opening. This allows the nut to be rotated and removed via the upper opening. The various features of the present retainer, and the manner in which they interrelate, are described in greater detail hereinafter.

The weld nut and the plate member are made of dissimilar materials different from each other. The weld nut includes a projection 12 on a bearing surface thereof. The plate member has a bolt through-hole 23 located on a center axis of the weld nut, for passing therethrough a bolt 40 corresponding to the weld nut and a projection through-hole 24 on the periphery of the bolt through-hole. The projection through-hole is penetrable by the projection. The weld nut is not directly welded to the plate member but joined to the plate member by being welded to the washer via the projection penetrating the projection through-hole.

Near zero shock and momentum transfer selectively releasable separation nut

A selectively releasable separation nut for securing a payload and/or deployable equipment (hereafter “second body”) to a rocket, missile, or aircraft or spacecraft (hereafter “first body”) by way of a preloaded bolt, or other fastener, and releasing them on command. The separation nut may have magnetic eddy current damping components that dissipate as heat the strain energy stored in the separation nut, the bolt, and surrounding first body and second body structures during the bolt preload release. Energy not dissipated as heat during preload release may be stored as kinetic energy and dissipated as heat after the bolt mechanical release. The bolt acceleration and velocity are controlled throughout the release cycle. The bolt kinetic energy post release is less than 0.01% of the stored strain energy pre-release. Shock, impulse, and momentum transfer to the released second body are near zero.
