Radial release device
A release device having a multi-segment split spool with a central bore adapted to axially restrain a tensioned member. A tensioned tape is overlappingly wound around the spool segments thereby preventing radial movement of the spool segments. The overlapping winding allows for a low profile housing for the-release device. The multiple segments require less radial motion for release of the tensioned member.
Isolated shearing mechanism for downhole tools
A shearing mechanism in which a male component mates into a female component, the male component having a first groove extending around the male component and the female component having a second groove extending around the female component, the first groove and the second groove cooperating when the male component is inserted into the female component to define an annular recess. A shearing component is provided within the annular recess, the shearing component having a shear load that is controlled by the material and size of the shearing component. An opening is provided within one or both of the male component and female component, the opening being aligned with the annular recess. Stress relief is provided.
Reel-in-box jumper cables
A connecting device for connecting runs of communication material having a predetermined length and coupling elements at both ends is provided. The connecting device includes a first end, an opposing second end, and a separating element. The first end couples to a coupling element of a first run of communication material and the second end couples to a coupling element of a second run of communication material. The first run and second run of communication material is separated in response to activation of the separating element. Also provided is a bulk cable packaging system that includes a plurality of runs of communication material, each run having a predetermined length and coupling elements at both ends and a plurality of connecting devices. The runs of communication material are coupled together with the connecting devices is operatively coupled to a reel. The reel is then operatively coupled within a container.
Omnidirectional breakaway support system and connector
A connector system having first and second connector segments held together by a rod threadably received in an internal axial bore through each of the first and second connector segments. Each connector segment has a breakaway portion formed from an angled face on one connector segment that cooperates with the mating angled face on the abutting connector segment to form a V-shaped breakpoint between the two connector segments. An intermediate segment can be positioned there between to provide two breakpoints, and multiple intermediate segments can be used for additional breakpoints. Upon impact, the system breaks at the breakpoint and only the rod needs to be in most cases. A longitudinal bore through the rod permits adaption of the rod to selected loads.
Mechanical part with pre-integrated through-fastening element
A mechanical part includes a part body provided with a through-opening, and a through-fastening element including a rod engaged in the through-opening and connected to an inner surface of the through-opening by a support fastened to the rod of the through-fastening element and to the inner surface of the through-opening and configured to break the link between the rod of the through-fastening element and the inner surface of the through-opening, under the effect of a thrust applied on the through-fastening element so as to push the rod of the latter into the through-opening. Due to the fact that the through-fastening element is pre-integrated with the mechanical part, the logistical management prior to assembly of the mechanical part to another mechanical part is simplified, the risk of operator errors and loss of the fastening element are reduced.
Edge Clip with Lever Clamping Mechanism
Disclosed is a fastening device, in particular an edge clip, for fastening a first component to a second component, preferably a plate-shaped element is provided. The fastening device includes a base body that delimits an approximately U-shaped receiving space for receiving a portion of a second component. One leg of the U-shaped receiving space forms a first fastening wall and a second leg opposite to the first leg of the receiving space forms a second fastening wall and a lever element for applying a compressive force to one of the two fastening walls that acts in the direction of the other fastening wall in such a way that the fastening device is connected to a second component via the fastening walls.
Pressure differential fastener release mechanism
A fastener release mechanism is provided, which operates utilizing a pressure differential between the mechanism and the surrounding medium. A sealed cavity is fabricated within a shank section of the mechanism. When used in a releasable system, the shank section is exposed to the surrounding medium through a plurality of channel bores fabricated into a head section of the fastener release mechanism. The shank section includes one or more seams or scored areas designed to cause the failure of the shank section when a pressure differential between the pressure of the surrounding medium against the shank section and the pressure within the cavity reaches a designed fracture pressure. The fracture of the shank section can release a part held in place by the threaded section of the fastener release mechanism.
Tow-bar fitting
A tow-bar fitting for connecting a tow-bar to an aircraft landing gear is disclosed including a tow-bar attachment to which, in use, the tow-bar is coupled. The tow-bar fitting also includes a first fuse member via which linear loads but not torque loads are transmitted from the tow-bar attachment to the rest of the landing gear. The first fuse member is configured to fail at a predetermined linear load threshold. The tow-bar fitting includes a second fuse member via which torque loads are transmitted from the tow-bar attachment to the rest of the landing gear. The second fuse member is configured to fail at a predetermined torque load threshold. A method of towing an aircraft is also disclosed.
Breakaway threaded fasteners and electrical connectors having such fasteners
A breakaway threaded fastener is provided. The fastener has a stud, a pin, and a cap. The stud has a hollow cavity with a closed end, an open end, a wall, and an outer surface. The outer surface has an external thread. The pin is in the hollow cavity. The pin has a first end at the closed end of the stud and a second end extending above the open end of the stud. The cap has another hollow cavity with a closed end, an open end, and an internal thread. The cap is threadably engaged to the open end of the stud via the internal and external threads so that the second end of the pin abuts the closed end of the cap.
Break-away coupler for aerial cable clamp and integrated cable cutter
A breakaway coupler includes a main body and a secondary body, removably attached to the main body. First and second attachment features are formed on the main and secondary bodies to permit attachment to first and second structures. A breakaway member connects the main and secondary bodies. A guide channel passes through an overlapped portion of the main and secondary bodies and accepts a cable therein. A blade passes across the guide channel to sever the cable when the secondary body is detached from the main body. In operation, a cable clamp frictionally holds the cable. The cable clamp is connected to the breakaway coupler, which is in turn connected to a fixed structure, e.g., a pole. When an excess force is applied to the cable, the main and secondary bodies of the breakaway coupler separate and the blade cuts the cable in the guide channel.
