A method of disengaging an axle disconnect system including providing an actuator having a coil (214) at least partially surrounded by a housing (220), an armature (216) located within the housing and the coil, where the armature is capable of actuating between a first and second position, and at least one of the housing and the armature is part of a magnetic circuit. Applying a current to the coil and actuating the armature from the first position to the second position. Developing an uninterrupted magnetic flux through the magnetic circuit and stopping application of the current to the coil. Permitting the magnetic flux through the magnetic circuit to continue in its uninterrupted state and maintain the armature in the second position. Applying an alternating current, having decreasing amplitude over time, to the coil to dissipate the magnetic flux through the magnetic circuit.

Transmission

A vehicle-use transmission includes a transmission case accommodating a transmission mechanism; and a power extraction case linked to a side wall of the transmission case and accommodating a gear type power extraction mechanism linked to a power extraction shaft of the transmission mechanism. The power extraction case includes: a gear accommodation chamber for accommodating the gear type power extraction mechanism; and an intermediate transmission chamber for establishing fluid communication between the gear accommodation chamber and the inside of the transmission case. The power extraction case is provided with an oil communication passage for establishing fluid communication between the inside of the transmission case and the gear accommodation chamber.

ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSE DISCONNECT SYSTEM AND METHODS
20170335900 · 2017-11-23 ·

Methods and systems are provided for operating an electromagnetic pulse disconnect assembly for selectively engaging two rotating components of a vehicle drivetrain. A disconnect assembly is needed that is not powered by vacuum diverted from an engine of the vehicle, as modern engines are being developed to reduce vacuum production and remove vacuum lines for powering peripheral devices such as disconnects. An electromagnetic pulse disconnect assembly is provided that operates via pulses of electrical current and includes an electromagnetic coil for translating a clutch ring assembly and a latching ring assembly to selectively couple two rotating components.

An axle disconnect assembly, including: a housing and a clutch a shaft with first splines; a sleeve including second splines non-rotatably connected to the first splines, and axially extending teeth; a shift lever including at least one pivot pin, a first end connected to the sleeve, and a second end; and an actuation assembly including an actuation shaft engaged with the second end of the shift lever, and an actuator. In a connect mode, the teeth are non-rotatably connected to a power output. In a disconnect mode, the sleeve is rotatable with respect to the power output. To shift from the disconnect mode to the connect mode: the actuator rotates the actuator shaft; the actuator shaft pivots the shift lever around an axis of the at least one pivot pin; and the first end of the shift lever displaces the sleeve, with respect to the shaft, in an axial direction.

Electromagnetic coil system and methods

Methods and systems are provided for operating an electromagnetic coil assembly. As one example, a method comprises responsive to energization of an electromagnetic coil of an electromagnetic coil assembly, translating the electromagnetic coil along a central axis of the electromagnetic coil assembly toward a magnetic armature while maintaining the armature fixed along the central axis. The electromagnetic coil assembly may be utilized within various clutching, braking, or lever applications.
