SWITCHABLE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
20200063860 · 2020-02-27 ·

A clutch assembly for selectively transmitting torque between an engine and a torque converter is provided. A first plate is non-rotatably connected to a torque converter cover. A second plate is configured to receive a torque input from an engine. A wedge clutch is disposed axially between the first and second plates and is configured to selectively transfer torque between the first plate and the second plate. The wedge clutch includes wedge segments that are configured to collectively radially expand and contract to selectively transfer torque between the first plate and the second plate.

CLUTCH WITH SELECTABLE LOCKED AND ONE-WAY MODES
20200040950 · 2020-02-06 ·

A clutch includes an inner race, an outer race defining an inner cam surface having lobes and valleys, and a plurality of wedge segments configured to selectively couple the inner and outer races. The wedge segments are circumferentially arranged around the inner race with each segment disposed between adjacent ones of the lobes and valleys. Each segment is circumferentially movable towards the adjacent lobe to increase friction with the inner race and towards the adjacent valley to decrease friction with the inner race. A cage is configured to drive the circumferential movement of the wedge segments. Rotation of the cage relative to the outer race in a first direction permits overrunning of the inner race in a second direction that is opposite the first direction while a second set of the segments locks the inner race from rotating in the first direction relative to the outer race.

Wedge plate clutch with off-set snap rings

A wedge plate clutch, including: inner and outer rings; circumferentially aligned wedge plate segments radially disposed between the inner and outer rings; a plurality of snap rings urging the circumferentially aligned wedge plate segments radially outwardly; and a cage. The plurality of snap rings includes: a first snap ring with a first circumferential gap; and a second snap ring with a second circumferential gap. The second circumferential gap is circumferentially off-set from the first circumferential gap. For a disconnect mode for the wedge plate clutch, the inner ring and the outer ring are rotatable with respect to each other. To transition from the disconnect mode to a connect mode for the wedge plate clutch, in which the inner and outer rings are non-rotatably connected, the cage is arranged to displace the circumferentially aligned wedge plate segments.

Hydraulic mount having unidirectional damping membrane

The present disclosure relates to a hydraulic mount having a unidirectional damping membrane. A hole is formed in a membrane and a one-way closure having upper and lower portions, which are different from each other, is inserted into the hole to control a flow of a fluid. The one-way closure means includes: a body which intermittently closes a lower side of the hole formed at a center of the membrane; a column portion which is vertically formed at a center of the body; and a moving closure which is formed at an upper portion of the column portion and closes an upper side of the hole.

SELF-CONTAINED SWITCHABLE WEDGE CLUTCH

A self-contained switchable wedge plate clutch, consisting of: a housing arranged to receive rotational torque; and a clutch assembly. The clutch assembly includes: an outer race non-rotatably connected to the housing; an output hub; a plurality of circumferentially aligned wedge plate segments, enclosed by the housing, radially disposed about the output hub; and an activation assembly at least a portion of which is enclosed by the housing. The activation assembly is arranged to displace the plurality of circumferentially aligned wedge plate segments to switch the self-contained switchable wedge plate clutch between: a locked mode for the sell-contained switchable wedge plate clutch, in which the housing and the output hub are non-rotatably connected; and an unlocked mode for the self-contained switchable wedge plate clutch, in which the housing and the output hub are rotatable with respect to each other.

TORQUE TRANSFER APPARATUS AND METHODS OF USE
20190368558 · 2019-12-05 ·

A torque transfer apparatus and method of use is described. The apparatus (60) comprises a plurality of elements (62) assembled together to form a ring structure oriented in a plane around a longitudinal axis. The ring structure defines a first engagement surface. A structure (56) defining a second engagement surface is rotatable with respect to the ring structure. The ring structure is operable to be moved between a collapsed condition and an expanded condition by movement of the plurality of elements, and movement between the collapsed condition and the expanded condition engages or disengages the first and second engagement surfaces. The apparatus can be configured to transfer a driving torque (e.g. a clutch) or a braking force (e.g. a torque brake).

Differential with disconnect clutch

A differential arrangement including a wedge clutch assembly is provided. The wedge clutch assembly includes a cage with a first plurality of tapered crossbars to at least partially define a plurality of tapered wedge pockets. A plurality of wedges are each arranged within a respective one of the plurality of wedge pockets and within a circumferential groove of an input drive gear or a differential assembly. An actuator assembly is configured to move the cage in at least one of a first axial direction or a second axial direction. Movement of the first plurality of tapered crossbars in one of the first axial direction or the second axial direction circumferentially drives the plurality of wedges into contact with the circumferential groove such that the input drive gear drives the differential assembly.

A switchable wedge clutch includes an inner race, and an outer race that has an inner surface defining a plurality of tapered regions. A plurality of wedge plate are disposed between the inner and outer races, and are moveable circumferentially about the inner race. Each wedge plate segment has a tapered outer surface configured to engage and slide relative to the tapered regions of the outer race. An actuating ring has a plurality of axially-extending tapered fingers configured to fit between two of the wedge plate segments. The wedge plate segments are wedged between the tapered regions and the inner race to lock the inner and outer race together. Axial movement of the actuating ring forces the wedge plate segments circumferentially against biasing forces of springs to unwedge the wedge plate segments from between the outer race and the inner race and unlock the wedge clutch.
