WHEEL SENSORS WITHIN VEHICULAR BRAKE ASSEMBLIES
A drum braking system having a spindle and backing plate affixed thereto. The system includes a drum rotating on the spindle. The drum has an inside surface with integral notches that are machined or cast into the drum. When the brakes are applied, brake shoes are actuated to contact the inside surface to create drag between the drum and the spindle. A sensor is fixed with respect to the spindle or backing plate that detects the notches when the drum rotates about the spindle. A portion of the inside surface with the integral notches is shared with the brake shoes so that applying the brakes prevents buildup that could contact the sensor. The sensor is positioned radially to reduce the effect of drum endplay on detecting of the notches.
BRAKE LINING WEAR SENSOR
A brake assembly having a non-braking configuration and a braking configuration includes a brake shoe having a brake lining coupled thereto. An actuator is coupled to the brake shoe, the actuator movable along an actuation path between a neutral actuator position and a braking actuator position. An actuator distance between the neutral actuator position and the braking actuator position increases over time in response to a reduction in thickness of a brake lining installed on the brake shoe. Moving the actuator from the neutral actuator position to the braking actuator position past a predetermined actuation distance causes a ratchet mechanism to advance to a next sequential ratchet position, which in turn moves the neutral actuator position of the actuator a predetermined distance away from the minimum actuator position. A sensor is coupled to the ratchet mechanism for detecting the sequential ratchet position of the ratchet mechanism.
Drum brake for a motor vehicle
A drum brake for a motor vehicle has a pocket for collecting abraded brake particles. The pocket is accessible from above via an opening. After the introduction of a suction device into the opening, the abraded brake particles can be extracted by suction. Pollution of the environment with abraded brake particles is thereby avoided.
Electric parking brake actuator mounting assembly
An electric parking brake actuator mounting assembly includes a brake backplate of a drum brake, having a rear surface opposite to a front surface configured to be facing a brake drum when the brake backplate is mounted on a motor vehicle, wherein the rear surface of the brake backplate includes a support base configured to receive a pull spindle of an electromechanical actuator, a supporting bracket including at least one coupling plate, configured to be attached to the rear surface of the brake backplate, and an actuator mounting surface configured to be coupled to and support the electromechanical actuator, wherein the actuator mounting surface includes a spindle seat, configured to receive the pull spindle of the electromechanical actuator, and a pin lock seat, configured to receive and lock an engagement pin of the electromechanical actuator.
Drum brake having a load measurement device
A drum brake having a brake drum, brake shoes, a carrier plate and a load measurement device in the region of an abutment is mountable on a steering knuckle. The abutment has a cylinder in which two pistons are guided, on the outer end faces of which the abutment ends of the brake shoes rest and the inner end faces of which are each supported by a spring on a step in the cylinder. A hollow peg projects from the outside of the cylinder and penetrates an opening in the carrier plate, such that it can be received in a receiving space in the steering knuckle resting on the carrier plate or in a reinforcement element fixed on the steering knuckle.
