WHEEL AND BRAKE ASSEMBLY
A wheel and brake assembly comprising: a stator; a rotating assembly mounted around and rotatable relative to the stator about an axis A; a torque tube in fixed engagement with the stator; a stack of brake disks mounted about the torque tube, the stack of brake disks comprising alternate rotor disks and stator disks, the stator disks attached to the torque tube and the rotor disks attached to the rotating assembly; a brake actuator configured to, in response to a brake command, apply a pressing force on the stack of brake disks to cause frictional engagement between the rotor disks and the stator disks such that the stator disks prevent the rotor disks and, hence the rotating assembly, from rotating relative to the torque tube.
BRAKE DISC ASSEMBLY
An article includes a structural core, one or more friction pads, and a plurality of elongated fasteners. The structural core includes two core surfaces and a plurality of pockets extending between the core surfaces. Each friction pad includes a pad surface and a friction surface opposite the pad surface. Each pad surface includes a planar pad surface configured to contact the core surface and a plurality of bosses extending from the first planar pad surface and including a bore. Each planar pad surface is at least about 50% of a surface area of the respective first and second pad surfaces. The plurality of bosses engages with the plurality of pockets to position the respective first and second friction pads relative to the structural core. The plurality of elongated fasteners passes through bores of corresponding bosses of friction pads to fasten the friction pads to the structural core.
NO-BACK BRAKE FOR A FLIGHT CONTROL ACTUATION SYSTEM AND METHOD
A no-back brake includes a torque tube and a brake. The brake is configured to be axially displaced in response to a force to prevent the torque tube from rotating. The brake includes a rotor that is concentric with the torque tube and that is fixed to the torque tube so that the rotor rotates with the torque tube. The brake includes a stator that is concentrically mounted on the torque tube so that the torque tube is rotatable relative to the stator. The brake includes a friction device located between the rotor and the stator. The friction device is configured to form a frictional coupling between the rotor and the stator that opposes relative rotational motion between the rotor and the stator when the brake is axially displaced. The frictional device includes a composite material.
Z-DIRECTION REINFORCED COMPOSITES AND METHODS OF FORMING Z-DIRECTION REINFORCED COMPOSITES
A fiber reinforced composite component may include interleaved fiber layers and ceramic particle layers coated with matrix material. The fiber reinforced composite component may be fabricated by forming a fibrous preform, needling the fibrous preform to form a plurality of z-direction fibers, and densifying the fibrous preform. The fibrous preform may be fabricated by forming a first ceramic particle layer over a first fiber layer, disposing a second fiber layer over the first ceramic particle layer, forming a second ceramic particle layer over the second fiber layer, and disposing a third fiber layer over the second ceramic particle layer.
Aircraft braking system
A routine maintenance procedure performed in respect of a wheel of an aircraft landing gear is disclosed. Consumable brake lining material is integrated with the wheel. Re-treading or replacing the wheel tyre and inspecting or replacing the consumable brake lining material tyre are performed at the same successive intervals as part of the routine maintenance procedure. The sum volume and mass of brake material present on the aircraft may thus be reduced. Brake material providing for the demands of a maximum energy rejected take-off may be provided separately. The wheel may be made in one or two parts from carbon-fibre composite material. At least some of the brake material may be provided on an outwardly facing planar surface of the wheel.
Wet brake system and method of operating a wet brake system
A wet brake system, a method therefor, and a vehicle including such system, the system comprising: a housing enclosing a brake compartment, at least one friction plate rotatably disposed within the brake compartment, at least one separator plate disposed within the brake compartment, coupled to the housing and configured to be frictionally engaged with the at least one friction plate for braking the at least one friction plate, the at least one friction plate and the at least one separator plate configured to be at least partially submersed in a liquid held within the brake compartment, and a liquid reservoir, wherein a drain port is arranged such that the at least one friction plate when rotating is configured to convey liquid held within the brake compartment to the liquid reservoir via the drain port and a drain channel for draining the brake compartment.
BRAKE WITH DUST RETAINING ASSEMBLY
A dust retainer for a brake system comprising a retainer receptacle mounted integrally to one or more components of the brake assembly, wherein the retainer receptacle comprises a drum have first and second open ends, one open end being secured to a component of the brake system and the other open end being closed by a dust retainer cap, the drum defining a space within which a brake disk of the brake system is located, in use, wherein removal of the dust retainer cap allows the brake disk to be removed from the open end of the retainer drum, and a removable drawer integrated in the drum. A fastening means to removably secure brake components to each other is also disclosed.
