The piston includes a first piston bypass and a second piston bypasses to control flow of the STF between opposite sides of the piston. The chamber further includes a set of fluid flow sensors and a set of fluid manipulation emitters to control the flow of the STF to cause selection of one of a variety of shear rates for the STF within the chamber to control motion of the object with regards to a secondary object.

The damper assembly further includes a biasing assembly that biases the valve into a first position within the chamber in which the seal is spaced from the first chamber wall. The valve is moveable within the chamber from the first position to a second position in which the seal contacts and seals against the first chamber wall to prevent the flow of fluid through the chamber.

The plurality of sensors (110) continuously detects movement parameters of the body (200), on which basis the control unit (130) determines whether there is an instability of the body (200). If it is determined that there is an instability, the control unit (130) selects a stabilisation strategy, according to which the actuators (120) are controlled. When controlled, the actuators (120) attached to the body (200) stiffen and limit the freedom of movement of the body (200), such that a movement in the direction of the imminent unstable state is prevented or suppressed. In this way, the body (200) is supported in its stabilisation and an imminent fall is prevented.

The processor 16 is arranged in signal communication with the sensor arrangement 12 and is configured to calculate, at each instance of time, a resultant dynamic force from the sensed displacement, weight and flow rate. System 10 further includes damping arrangement 24 which is operatively responsive to the processor 16 and is configured to dynamically dampen the resultant dynamic force in order to maintain vibration amplitudes in the silo structure 9 below a user-selectable threshold.
