COMPACT LOW-FREQUENCY WAVE ABSORPTION DEVICE
Rotational translation of an inertial mass rotor is used for providing damping of low frequency noise and vibration. An axial component is mounted so as to translate axial movement of an inertial linearly-displaceable member to rotational movement of an inertial mass rotor. The translation to rotational movement of the inertial mass rotor provides inertial amplification in the form of translational-rotational coupling. This enables the construction of a compact assembly, which allows light ultra-low frequency resonances to be concentrated, and which absorbs such low frequency noise energy.
INERTERS WITH FRICTION DISK ASSEMBLIES, AND AIRCRAFT HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS AND AIRCRAFT INCLUDING THE SAME
Inerters with friction disk assemblies, and aircraft hydraulic systems and aircraft including the same. An inerter comprises an inerter housing containing an inerter fluid, a threaded shaft extending within the inerter housing and fixed relative to the first terminal, and an inerter rod extending at least partially within the inerter housing and fixed relative to the second terminal. The inerter further includes a friction disk assembly that, together with the inerter fluid, is configured to damp a motion of the second terminal relative to the first terminal. The friction disk assembly includes a fixed portion and a rotating portion, and is configured such that rotation of the rotating portion generates a frictional torque that opposes the rotation of the rotating portion. In some examples, the inerter is a component of a hydraulic actuator, an aircraft hydraulic system including the hydraulic actuator, and/or an aircraft including the aircraft hydraulic system.
Device having a controllable rotary damper, and method
A door component has a controllable rotary damper and two connector units which can be moved relative to one another. One of the two connector units can be connected to a load-bearing construction and the other one can be connected to a movable door device of a vehicle, in order to damp a movement of the door device between a closed position and an open position in a controlled manner. Two mutually engaged spindle units are arranged between the two connector units, one spindle unit being a threaded spindle and the other being a spindle nut. A first spindle unit is fastened rotatably on a coupling rod connected to one of the connector units. A magnetorheological transmission device is arranged between the coupling rod and the first spindle unit, in order to brake a rotational movement of the first spindle unit as required.
Adaptive self-centering apparatus and method for seismic and wind protection of structures
An adaptive self-centering device (ASCD) which uses one or more ratchet-pawl mechanisms. The hysteretic slip force of the ASCD preferably comes from a friction mechanism. The self-centering originates from the ratcheting of the pawl over the ratchet wheel and a self-centering device, in response to a force from an apparatus such as a spring. The nonlinear hardening of the apparatus, which conforms to the favorable adaptive behavior sought in modern day passive devices, stems from the mechanism of the lever within the apparatus that transforms the linear motion into rotatory motion.
EDDY CURRENT DAMPER
An eddy current damper includes a magnet holding member, a first permanent magnet having a thickness (H1), a second permanent magnet having a thickness (H1), a conductive member, a ball nut, a screw shaft, and a copper layer having a thickness (H2). The second permanent magnet is adjacent to the first permanent magnets with a gap therebetween in the circumferential direction of the magnet holding member. The ball nut is fixed to the magnet holding member or the conductive member. The copper layer is fixed to the conductive member and is opposed to the first permanent magnet and the second permanent magnet with a gap therebetween. The thickness (H1) and the thickness (H2) satisfy, with respect to a distance (R1) between a central axis of the screw shaft and the center of gravity of the first permanent magnet:
0.018≤H1/R1≤0.060, and
0.0013≤H2/R1≤0.0065.
METHOD OF CONTROLLING A MOVEMENT OF A DOOR WITH A CONTROLLABLE ROTARY DAMPER
Electromagnetic suspension apparatus
The electromagnetic suspension apparatus includes: an electromagnetic actuator provided in parallel with a spring member between a vehicle body and a wheel of a vehicle and configured to generate driving force involving vibration damping of the vehicle body; an information acquisition unit configured to acquire, through a high-pass filter, time-series information about a stroke position of the electromagnetic actuator; and an ECU configured to calculate target driving force of the electromagnetic actuator and use the calculated target driving force to execute driving force control of the electromagnetic actuator. The ECU corrects the target driving force such that when the stroke position on the basis of the high-pass-filter-processed time-series information, from which low-frequency components (steady state deviation) have been removed, is present in a neutral region including a neutral position, spring force of the spring member is made weaker than when the stroke position is present in a non-neutral region.
Systems for damping a solar photovoltaic array tracker
Solar tracker systems include a torque tube, a column supporting the torque tube, a solar panel attached to the torque tube, and a damper assembly. The damper assembly includes an outer shell surrounding an inner shell and defining an outer fluid channel. A piston is positioned within the inner shell and moveable relative thereto. A locking valve of the damper assembly includes a shaft extending into a chamber and a seal attached to the shaft. The shaft is selectively moveable axially within the chamber along an extension axis between an unsealed position in which the seal is spaced from a chamber wall and a flow path is defined that extends from within the inner shell, through the chamber, and to the outer fluid channel, and a sealed position in which the seal contacts the chamber wall and the locking valve obstructs the flow path.

A portable device for precision plasma and oxy-fuel torch cutting is provided. Versions of an example portable cutting torch tool guide the gun of a cutting torch to make precision linear cuts or curved cuts in a metal workpiece. In an implementation, the device is a gun for a cutting torch, with an integrated rail follower and adjustable vertical and horizontal offsets from a workpiece. The cutting torch tool may use various kinds of rails for stable cuts, with optional movement damping, motorized drive, servos for vertical and horizontal offset, and remote control with user interface.
Vehicle seat with tilting backrest
Vehicle seat fixed to the floor of a cabin of a vehicle and which is able to absorb the impact of a passenger seated behind. It comprises at least two uprights (20) per backrest, these being positioned substantially vertically and engaged via a lower end (30) in the fixed framework (32) of the seat in such a way as to be releasable through upward translational movement so that they can disengage upward under the effect of an impact on a rear face, and are mounted with the ability to rotate about at least one fixed axis of the fixed framework (32) so as to be able to pivot forwards after becoming disengaged. At least one deliberate mechanical weak link positioned between each upright (20) and the framework (32) blocks the translational movement of the upright below a determined force corresponding to the impact. Application to aircraft seats.
