A filter cartridge for a respirator includes an RFID chip encoding a digital change management policy (DCMP) indicating a useful lifespan of the cartridge, so that the cartridge may be replaced at the end of the useful lifespan. In some examples, a system includes a respirator comprising a facepiece and an air blower; a removable contaminant capture cartridge installed within the respirator and configured to remove contaminants from the air as the air passes through the contaminant capture cartridge, wherein the contaminant capture cartridge comprises a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip encoding a digital change management policy (DCMP) indicating a useful lifespan of the contaminant capture cartridge; and a computing device configured to read the DCMP from the RFID chip or write the DCMP to the RFID chip.

Embodiments relate generally to methods and systems for refreshing filter media within a respirator and indicating end of service life for the filter media. A respirator may include a rollable filter media configured to be refreshed by rolling the filter media onto a roller. A rolling mechanism may rotate the roller, allowing for a fresh section of filter media to be placed in the air path of the respirator. The rolling mechanism may be controlled automatically by a motor and/or manually.

A cartridge comprising layers of adsorbent sheet is described. The cartridge includes an indicator that characterizes the consumption state of the adsorbent within the cartridge. The indicator is applied in a way such that discrete areas of indicator are visible. These discontinuous areas of indicator may be applied to the outside surface of the cartridge. Alternatively, the discontinuous areas may be formed by cutting windows in the outermost layer of the cartridge and either coating indicator on the layer beneath the window, placing an indicator layer between the window and the layer beneath it or filling the window with an indicating plug of material so that the indicator is visible from the outside of the cartridge. The indicator layer and indicator plug embodiments allow the use of any indicator with any adsorbent.

The internal sensor is configured to detect and measure a plurality of inside mask VOC readings. The external sensor is configured to detect and measure a plurality of outside mask VOC readings. The external sensor compares an average inside VOC value with an average outside VOC value to provide unique and accurate information of the environment inside the protective mask thereby protecting the user from hazardous situations.

The front respirator-body includes a filter sheet arranged inside the front respirator-body and configured to absorb pollutants in air entering the front respirator-body, an air sensor arranged inside the front respirator-body and configured to detect an air index of filtered air filtered by the filter sheet, and a flow sensor arranged inside the front respirator-body and configured to determine a total respiratory amount. The smart respirator also includes a fixation band arranged at the second open end.

FILTER CARTRIDGE INCLUDING PATTERNED FUNCTIONAL MATERIAL

Various embodiments of a filter cartridge are disclosed. The filter cartridge includes a first filter media layer having first and second major surfaces, a second filter media layer having first and second major surfaces, and a plenum disposed between the first and second filter media layers. The filter cartridge further includes functional material disposed on the first major surface of each of the first and second filter media layers within a filter region of the filter cartridge, where the functional material includes active particles disposed on an adhesive layer; and a perimeter seal region that defines at least a portion of a perimeter of the filter cartridge, where at least the first and second filter media layers are connected together in the perimeter seal region. The functional material is not disposed in at least a portion of the perimeter seal region.
