FIRE AND SMOKE CONTAINMENT SERVICES TRANSIT UNIT AND AN ASSOCIATED METHOD
20200080666 · 2020-03-12 ·

The fire and smoke containment services transit unit includes a casing constructed from a material such as plastic or timber having a thermal conductivity of less than 5 watts per meter per Kelvin. The casing defines a first opening at a first end and a second opening at a second end. Intermediate the first and second ends is an internal volume encased by the casing. The internal volume and each of the openings and are sized to allow services such as cables, pipes, etc., to be threaded through the services transit unit. An intumescent material is housed within the internal volume. Prior to exposure to the heat of a fire, the intumescent material maintains a slim profile. When exposed to the heat associated with a building fire, the intumescent material swells and seals the internal volume against the passage of fire, smoke or heated gases through the transit unit.

METHOD OF PROTECTING AN OBJECT AGAINST FIRE AND FIRE PROTECTIVE COVERING FOR AN OBJECT
20200069981 · 2020-03-05 ·

The invention relates to a method of protecting an object (1) against fire. An endothermic material (2) is arranged around the object (1), and then an outer metal-containing cladding (5) is arranged so that it covers at least a part of the endothermic material (2). The endothermic material (2) is provided as a tape (3) which is applied by helically winding the tape (3) in an overlapping manner resulting in a stepped outer surface (6) facing towards the outer cladding (5). The outer cladding (5) comprises metal, in particular is made of metal. The stepped outer surface (6) results in air cavities (7) being formed underneath the outer cladding (5). When the object (1) is exposed to a fire, such small air cavities (7) will allow for a slight swelling of the endothermic material (2) that will, as a consequence of the fire, react and release water directly to the outer cladding (5) from underneath and thereby provide cooling thereof.

Fire protection for pipes
10571067 · 2020-02-25 · ·

A fire protection product for use as fire protection of a pipe (10), comprising an active layer (11) of a material containing an active substance which, when subjected to heat, expands and undergoes one or more endothermic reaction processes, the active layer (11) enclosing the pipe (10) on at least a length of the pipe to be protected; a plurality of distance pieces (12) extending a distance outwardly from the active layer (11); and an outer tubular cladding (13) supported by the distance pieces (12) and enclosing the pipe (10), the active layer (11) and the distance pieces (12). The active layer (11), the distance pieces (12) and the outer tubular cladding (13) define a space (15) with a volume, which can accommodate the active substance (11) after the active substance (11) has expanded. The active substance can be rubber based or polymer based.
