Shift lever retention apparatus

A gear shift lever biasing apparatus includes a shift lever biased primarily along a first dimension axis using a spring. The shift lever is retained to a backing plate, which may be mounted on a frame. A contact area on the backing plate engages with a bumper that is secured to the frame with a semi-rigid retainer, thereby providing bias to the gated shift lever primarily along a second dimension axis that is primarily orthogonal to the first dimension axis.

At least some implementations of a transmission gear shifter include a first body rotatable among multiple positions, a second body rotatable among multiple positions, a retainer and first and second actuators. The retainer is movable relative to the second body between a first position in which the retainer prevents rotation of the second body, and a second position in which the retainer permits rotation of the second body. The first actuator is coupled to the retainer to move the retainer between the first and second positions. And the second actuator provides a force on the second body to rotate the second body when the retainer is in the second position.

HAPTIC FUNCTION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE POWERTRAIN

A system generates haptic feedback in an electric vehicle. The system comprises a frame, an energy storage device, and a wheel rotatably coupled to the frame. A motor receives power from the energy storage device and provides torque to the wheel. A controller determines a first operational state of the electric vehicle and transmits a first torque signal to the motor to control the motor to transmit first torque levels to the wheel to propel the electric vehicle. The controller determines a second operational state of the electric vehicle and transmits a second torque signal to the motor assembly. The motor assembly transmits second torque levels to the wheel to generate haptic feedback. The second torque signal is based on the second operational state of the electric vehicle and a torque profile stored in the memory, where the torque profile defines an irregular-shaped periodic waveform (e.g., a heartbeat rhythm).

A shift-by-wire system comprising one or more touch sensitive displays, a memory, one or more processors, and one or more modules stored in the memory. The one or more modules are comprised of instructions executable by one or more processors to display a gear selection indicator at a predefined region. The gear selection indicator is displayed in a predefined region as instructed by the transmission control unit. The processor detects a contact with the one or more touch sensitive displays at the predefined region corresponding to a gear selection indicator and determines a gesture performed by a user to associate the gesture with a gear selection. An output signal is then transmitted to the transmission control unit corresponding the gear selection and affects a vehicle transmission. The newly selected gear is then displayed via the gear selection indicator on the predefined region.
