Open-faced piston assembly
10669969 · 2020-06-02 · ·

The present disclosure provides an open-faced piston with a circumferential groove into which a piston ring assembly is arranged. Openings at the bottom of the circumferential groove and between a front land of the open-faced piston and the piston face are provided. The openings are arranged to allow for a combustion reaction to propagate through the volume defined between the bottom of the piston ring assembly and the piston face such that at least a portion of an air and fuel mixture located in that volume is reacted.

Accumulator piston, in particular for a pressure medium accumulator of a hydraulic unit of an electronically slip-controllable vehicle brake system

An accumulator piston, in particular a piston for a pressure medium accumulator of a hydraulic unit of an electronically slip-controllable vehicle brake system, includes a cylindrical piston shaft, and a piston head covering the piston shaft. The piston head includes a circumferentially closed blind-hole-shaped recess having an opening. A cross section of the recess in a region of the opening has at least one smaller dimension than a cross section in a region of a base of the recess opposite the opening. The recess forms a mechanism configured to separate particles out from the pressure medium.

Brake master cylinder with curved lands

A brake master cylinder comprising a housing having an inner surface defining a bore, and a piston movable in the bore along a piston axis. The piston includes two spaced apart lands defining the radially outermost surfaces capable of contacting the inner surface. At least one of the lands is longitudinally curved at the radially outermost surface. For example, the land can be curved at a radius of less than 1 inch (e.g., between 0.15 inch and 0/75 inch) and preferably less than 0.5 inch. In one embodiment, the longitudinally curved land includes two edges that define an axial length of the land. The two edges have a radius of less than 0.2 inch, and preferably about 0.1 inch. The relative position of the edges and lands is such that neither of the two edges is capable of contacting the inner surface of the bore during reciprocating movement of the piston in the bore.

A piston formed of steel and/or cast iron for a heavy-duty diesel engine which includes an oil belt for controlling an oil film and thus achieving reduced oil consumption and carbon build-up is provided. The piston includes an uppercrown portion presenting a combustion surface, a ring belt depending from the combustion surface, pin bosses depending from the ring belt, and skirt panels depending from the ring belt and located diametrically opposite one another. The ring belt includes two ring grooves preferentially but accommodates a 3 ring groove version for containing piston rings. The oil belt is located axially below a pin bore on the pin bosses. The oil belt also has a convex shape extending continuously around a circumference of the piston.

APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR ADDITIVELY MANUFACTURING O-RING GROOVES

Apparatus and methods for additively manufactured O-ring grooves are presented herein. An O-ring groove is additively manufactured to have a vertical face, bottom face, and an opposite face. By additively manufacturing the opposite face to be outwardly facing with an obtuse angle, the O-ring groove can be built without the need for support structures, thereby reducing post processing steps and manufacturing cost.

Double cup-shaped piston for a disc brake

A double cup-shaped piston for a disc brake including an electromechanical parking brake device. An aspect of the invention permits an improved compromise between easier operability, rationalized component logistics in piston production, reduced hydraulic volume uptake in cooperation with the wheel brake periphery, and enhanced fatigue strength under maximum collective stress, in particular for heavy-duty applications of a disc brake with an electromechanical parking brake device. The problem is solved by the presence of a piston wall, which is provided, on the one hand, to sit with a free edge on a rear plate of a friction lining, and wherein the piston, on the other hand, includes an integral dome which forms an open receptacle for an actuator arranged diametrically to the edge of the piston.

STEEL BRAKE PISTON FOR A HYDRAULIC BRAKE

A pot-shaped, cold-formed steel brake piston as a pot which is open on one side includes a base and a wall including inner and outer walls, a radially inwardly configured groove is open in a radially outward direction and forms, radially at the inside, a groove bead projection. The open side of the pot ends as a bearing for a friction pad backplate. Interfaces integrated at the inside on the end side serve a) for the fixing between friction pad and steel brake piston and b) as support bearing for spring mounting the friction pad. An aspect is a further improved steel brake piston of the new generation. The minimum inner diameter d.sub.imin is axially set back in the direction of the base by a multiple of the length of a wall thickness s, and the minimum piston inner diameter d.sub.imin is formed by the groove bead projection.
