SYSTEMS FOR COORDINATED MEDIATION ACTION IN RESPONSE TO AN IDENTIFIED ENVIRONMENTAL ANOMALY ON A SHIPPING CONTAINER
20200265696 · 2020-08-20 ·

An improved system on a transit vehicle is described for coordinated mediation action in response to an identified environmental anomaly on a shipping container transported by the vehicle. The system has wirelessly broadcasting ID nodes at different locations within the container, and a fire suppression system on the vehicle having a wireless transceiver-based controller operating as a master node that can cause the suppression system to deliver fire suppressant material to the container using a delivery nozzle and pump. The controller, as master node, is configured to operate as a primary monitor for the anomaly by being operative to monitor ID node signals; identify the anomaly based on the signals; generate a layered alert notification related to the anomaly (identifying a targeted mediation action and establishes a mediation response priority); and initiate a mediation response by the suppression system related to the targeted mediation action and the mediation response priority.

SAFETY AUXILIARY SYSTEM FOR A MODULAR BATTERY IN AN UNDERWATER VEHICLE AND CORRESPONDING BATTERY

A safety auxiliary system, coupled to a modular battery of an underwater vehicle having a number of modules, each provided with a plurality of cells, has: a first subsystem, which detects conditions indicative of a thermal runaway in any of the modules d manages such a thermal runaway, intervening locally on the module to cool the corresponding cells so that the thermal runaway is not propagated; and a second subsystem, cooperating with, and operatively coupled to, the first subsystem, which manages gases present in the module associated with the thermal runaway, preventing them from pouring inside the underwater vehicle. The first subsystem is provided with a first electronic control unit for each of said modules, and the second subsystem is provided with a second electronic control unit, distinct from, and operatively coupled to, the first electronic control unit through a communication connection, so as to receive an alarm signal upon detection of the conditions indicative of the thermal runaway in the corresponding module.

Bus duct firestop system

A firestop system for fire stopping a bus duct that passes through an opening in a marine deck or a marine bulkhead includes a boot seal wrapped around the bus duct housing. The boot seal has a top end attached to the bus duct, and a bottom end attached to the division. The boot seal is made of flexible material to allow for movement of the bus duct relative to the division due to vibration. The boot seal may be made of a thermal barrier wrap or other high-temperature insulating mat materials to allow heat generated under normal condition to escape while providing firestopping and temperature resistance under fire exposure conditions. The firestop system may also have a gasket positioned between the bus duct and the boot seal to accommodate irregularities in the outside surface of the bus duct housing.

Methods and systems for unresponsive ID node monitoring for an environmental anomaly

Systems for enhanced detection and response to an environmental anomaly in a shipping container may include wireless ID nodes within a shipping container, and a command node mounted to the container that communicates with the ID nodes and a transit vehicle transceiver. The command node's memory has program code, a communication profile and context data for each the ID nodes. The command node is adapted to monitor the ID nodes for an unanticipated ceased broadcasting from any of the ID nodes per the communication profiles; detect the anomaly when the number of ID nodes in the unanticipated ceased broadcasting state exceeds a threshold setting on the command node; generate a layered alert notification identifying a mediation recipient and mediation action, and establishing a mediation response priority based upon the ceased broadcasting ID nodes; and initiate the mediation response by transmitting the notification to the external transceiver.

A method for supplying fire suppressing agent to the interior of a container for an extended duration includes detecting sensor signals indicative of a temperature associated with a container, determining via a controller that the fire suppressing agent should be supplied to the interior of the container based at least in part on the sensor signals, and initiating via the controller expulsion of fire suppressing agent from a chamber containing fire suppressing agent. The method may further include puncturing a surface of the container with a puncture mechanism to provide flow communication between the chamber and the interior of the container to permit supply of fire suppressing agent into the interior of the container at a first time, initiating via the controller expulsion of fire suppressing agent from a second chamber containing fire suppressing agent at a second time after the first time, and supplying fire suppressing agent from the second chamber into the interior of the container.
