The present technology provides for a microfluidic substrate configured to carry out PCR on a number of polynucleotide-containing samples in parallel. The substrate can be a single-layer substrate in a microfluidic cartridge. Also provided are a method of making a microfluidic cartridge comprising such a substrate. Still further disclosed are a microfluidic valve suitable for use in isolating a PCR chamber in a microfluidic substrate, and a method of making such a valve.

A system may include a first conduit configured to form a first batch of discrete volumes of aqueous fluid separated by spacing liquid disposed between consecutive volumes of aqueous fluid, the spacing liquid being immiscible with the aqueous fluid volumes; a second conduit, fluidically coupled to the first conduit, the second conduit configured to statically hold the first batch of discrete volumes of aqueous fluid; and a third conduit configured to receive the first batch of discrete volumes of aqueous fluid from the second conduit. The third conduit can be configured to transfer the discrete volumes of aqueous fluid of the first batch for downstream processing.
MICROFLUIDIC MIXING
A microfluidic device (100) for mixing a liquid L is provided. The microfluidic device (100) comprises a microfluidic chamber (20), having an inlet (30), and arranged to receive the liquid L therein. In use, the microfluidic device (100) is arranged to control translation through the liquid L of a body B introduced therein, wherein the translation of the body B is due to a potential field acting on the body. In this way, the controlled translation of the body B mixes the liquid L in the microfluidic chamber (20).
MICROPARTICLE SORTING METHOD AND MICROCHIP FOR SORTING MICROPARTICLES
There is provided a microparticle sorting method including a procedure of collecting a microparticle in a fluid that flows through a main channel in a branch channel that is in communication with the main channel by generating a negative pressure in the branch channel. In the procedure, a flow of a fluid is formed that flows toward a side of the main channel from a side of the branch channel at a communication opening between the main channel and the branch channel.
