POPPET ASSEMBLY FOR USE IN A SUBSEA CONNECTION SYSTEM
20170328164 · 2017-11-16 ·

A subsea connection system for connecting to a hub has a body with an interior passageway, a collet having a plurality of collet segments, an outer sleeve overlying the collet, and a poppet valve assembly positioned within the interior passageway of the body. The plurality of collet segments are movable between a locked position and an unlocked position. The poppet valve assembly is movable between an open position and a closed position in which the open position allows a fluid to flow through the interior passageway and the closed position blocks a flow of fluid through the interior passageway. The outer sleeve is movable so as to cause the plurality of collet segments to join to a hub.

The invention concerns a clamp (1) for joining two connecting elements (2, 3) with abutting faces oriented transverse to a centre axis of the connecting elements. The clamp comprises a first and a second clamp element (4, 5) which are connected to each other by a pivot arrangement (6) and arranged for positioning around an area where the two connecting elements are to be joined. The clamp is provided with a locking device (9) to secure the connecting elements together when used, and the clamp is provided with an actuating device (10) which is arranged to actuate the locking device in between a locking position and a release position. The invention also concerns methods for releasing a clamp.

Marine pipelaying and method for abandonment of a pipeline

A method is provided for installing a pipeline on the seabed from a marine pipelaying vessel, including initiation, pipelaying, and abandonment of the pipeline. An embodiment of the abandonment of the pipeline includes halting pipelaying and engaging a hang-off clamp with the pipeline at a position below one or more tensioners, transferring the weight onto the hang-off clamp and holding the seagoing pipeline in the firing line, severing the pipeline, connecting the initiation cable to the lower end of the pipeline held by the one or more tensioners, transferring pipeline tension onto the initiation cable, releasing the one or more tensioners, so that a section of the pipeline is held in the firing line between the pipeline diverter and the initiation cable, vacating the firing line by at least displacing both the pipeline diverter and the initiation cable sheave and thereby displacing said section of the pipeline from the firing line, arranging the A&R cable in the firing line, connecting the A&R cable to the upper end of the seagoing pipeline held in the firing line, releasing the hang-off clamp, and operating the A&R winch and thereby lowering the pipeline onto the seabed.

The invention concerns a process and a device for laying a subsea pipeline according to the J-lay or S-lay method wherein straight sections are mounted onshore, dried and degassed then closed by plugs. The sections are loaded on a pipe-laying ship, are separated from their plugs before the welding. At the welding of each bulkhead a short pumping is operated to reduce the pressure in the part of the annulus located between the two last bulkheads and then the opening leading to the annulus are sealed.

Tool for leak point identification and new methods for identification, close visual inspection and repair of leaking pipelines

An apparatus for close visual inspection of subsea pipelines comprises a housing with a chamber that has an open side. The open side is adapted to be placed in sealing engagement against the pipeline. The chamber is flooded with clear water to improve the visual view. It is also described an apparatus for identification of a plume exiting from a leak The apparatus comprises a housing defining a chamber with a water permeable side that is adapted to face downward during use, and thereby being exposed to the exiting substance. A gas pressurizing device for creates a gas/water interface within the housing. An imaging device arranged above the water surface is adapted to image the water surface and detect id the water surface is being disturbed by the plume.

Present embodiments of the disclosure are directed to an improved hub clamping system and method used to connect and seal a pair of API hubs. The hub clamping system generally includes a plurality of individually operated clamp units assembled within a single outer retaining ring. The clamp units disposed in the retaining ring may provide a multi-segment clamping arrangement to hold the API hubs together. The clamp units may each include a collet mechanism having a slanted surface shaped to engage one of the pair of hubs, a housing mounted to the outer retaining ring, and a screw device coupled to the collet mechanism via threads and disposed within the housing. The screw device may be rotatable relative to the housing to selectively move the collet mechanism between an activated position and a retracted position relative to the hubs.

Yoke over pipeline end termination assembly and method of use

A system includes a foundation with a post mounted on the foundation top surface and a pipe module configured to couple to the foundation. The pipe module has a yoke to cooperate with the post to engage the pipe module with the foundation. The pipe module is connected to the end of a pipeline and is configured to slide along the foundation responsive to longitudinal and angular movements of the end of the pipeline. A method includes deploying a foundation subsea and securing the foundation to a seafloor. The foundation has a post. The method includes deploying the pipe module via the pipeline suspended by a pipe module installation machine. The pipe module has a yoke. The method includes engaging the yoke with the post, paying out the pipeline to lower the yoke, and lowering and engaging the pipe module with the foundation.
