Combination spray nozzle/QD connector assembly for filling firefighter backpack bladders
Wildfire water-supply hose having a QD nozzle with an outer sleeve adapted to engage a firefighter's backpack water bladder's QD connector. The combination male QD nozzle/female QD system permits rapid and easier bottom-up filling of the bladders without dismounting the tank from the firefighter's back, by inserting the QD nozzle into the female QD fitting on the bottom of the backpack bladder. The QD nozzle tip is long enough to open the internal spring-biased shut-off valve in the female QD connector when inserted. Upon opening the supply line valve, water flows into the backpack bladder until full. The supply valve is closed and the QD nozzle is withdrawn from the bladder female QD connector. Rotation of the QD nozzle outer sleeve controls water flow from stream, to spray to mist. The QD nozzle is also used with other types of nozzles on dual fittings having 3-way valves, e.g., fog nozzles.
Stream straightener
A nozzle assembly includes a nozzle body, a first flow straightener coupled to the nozzle body, and a second flow straightener coupled to the nozzle body. The nozzle body defines an inlet, an outlet, and a nozzle body passage extending between the inlet and the outlet. The first flow straightener extends at least partially across the nozzle body passage and defines a first passage and a second passage each fluidly coupling the inlet and the outlet. The second flow straightener extends at least partially across the nozzle body passage and defines a third passage and a fourth passage each fluidly coupling the inlet and the outlet.

Mist generating apparatus
An improved mist generating apparatus is provided, the apparatus having a longitudinal axis (L), and first and second opposing nozzle surfaces (100,102) which define a nozzle between them. A first process fluid passage (28) has an inlet connectable to a supply of process fluid, and a process fluid outlet (110) on one or the first and second nozzle surfaces (100,102) such that the process fluid outlet (110) opens into the nozzle. The nozzle has a nozzle inlet (104) connectable to a supply of driving fluid, a nozzle outlet (108), and a throat portion (106) intermediate the nozzle inlet (104) and nozzle outlet (108). The nozzle throat (106) has a cross sectional area which is less than that of both the nozzle inlet (104) and the nozzle outlet (108). The nozzle extends radially away from the longitudinal axis (L) such that the nozzle defines a rotational angle about the longitudinal axis (L). A centre line (CL) of the nozzle extends from the nozzle throat (106) to the nozzle outlet (108) at an angle of between 50 and 80 degrees relative to the longitudinal axis (L).
User configurable long-range fire-fighting apparatus
There is described a fire-fighting apparatus comprising a housing comprising an upstream air inlet and a downstream fire-extinguishing stream outlet and a hollow body therebetween, wherein the housing houses an air stream traveling at high velocity; and a spray assembly concentrically mounted to the housing. The spray assembly comprises a fluid inlet connected to a source of fluid outside the housing; and a plurality of injecting assemblies fluidly connected to the fluid inlet and designed for breaking down an inflow of the fluid into droplets and projecting the droplets of the fluid within the air stream in a multiphase fire-extinguishing stream. The injecting assemblies each comprises a fluid outlet; a base plate through which extends the fluid outlet; a holding structure mounted to the base plate and extending downstream therefrom, and a unibody jet-fragmenting device mounted to the holding structure facing the stream of fluid exiting the fluid outlet.
