METHOD AND SYSTEM TO ENSURE FULL OIL TUBES AFTER GAS TURBINE ENGINE SHUTDOWN
20180306062 · 2018-10-25 ·

A gas turbine engine includes a bearing compartment that has an inlet. A supply line splits into a supply conduit and a reservoir conduit that are fluidly parallel to one another for a length. The reservoir conduit fluidly rejoins the supply conduit at a junction. The supply conduit is fluidly connected to the inlet, and the reservoir conduit includes a flow restrictor upstream from the junction. A main pump is fluidly connected to the supply line and is configured to supply a lubricant to the bearing compartment through the supply line and supply and reservoir conduits in an operating state. The main pump has a non-operating state in which the reservoir conduit is configured to slowly refill the supply conduit through the flow restrictor.

VERTICAL BEARING DEVICE

A lubricating oil passage portion that constitutes a cooling portion is exposed to the outside from a casing. Lubricating oil having absorbed heat of a thrust bearing portion and a journal bearing portion is cooled in the cooling portion, when the lubricating oil moves from an upper oil chamber to a lower oil chamber while circulating by use of gravity. Thus, the circulating lubricating oil prompts cooling of the heated thrust bearing portion and journal bearing portion. Additionally, the lubricating oil passage portion of the cooling portion is provided integrally with the casing, on the radially outer side of the casing. For this reason, the cooling portion does not require long piping.

AUTOMOTIVE DRIVELINE UNIT HOUSING WITH LUBRICANT FEED PASSAGE AND FLOW RESTRICTOR
20180202331 · 2018-07-19 ·

An automotive driveline unit housing can be that of a power transfer unit (PTU), a final drive unit (FDU), or a rear drive unit (RDU). The automotive driveline unit housing has a lubricant feed passage spanning from an inlet to an outlet. The outlet can be situated near a seal of the automotive driveline unit, near a bearing of the unit, near both the seal and bearing, or near another component. The lubricant feed passage can have a flow restrictor located near its outlet. When the unit is in a connected state, lubricant is received in the lubricant feed passage via a spinning gear of the unit. The received lubricant trickles through the flow restrictor. And when the unit is in a disconnected state, lubricant continues to trickle through the flow restrictor, even though lubricant may no longer be received in the lubricant feed passage via the gear.

Drive module with improved efficiency
12162343 · 2024-12-10 · ·

A drive module for a vehicle including an electric machine, an inverter, a gearing assembly, and a cooling system. A first housing member thermally coupled with the inverter has a first set of heat exchange surfaces and a second housing member thermally coupled with the electric machine has a second set of heat exchange surfaces. The first and second sets of heat exchange surfaces each project into an interior volume cooled by an externally supplied liquid coolant which thereby defines a heat exchanger. A lower oil sump for collecting oil used to cool the electric machine may also include heat exchange surfaces projecting into the same heat exchanger. The gearbox may include an elevated oil sump which is supplied by the same oil pump circulating oil on the electric machine wherein the elevated oil sump gravity feeds oil onto selected surfaces within the gearbox.
