Fire extinguisher and fire extinguisher medium

Fire extinguisher apparatus comprising at least one vessel containing a fire extinguishing medium and adapted to release said fire extinguishing medium when a fire or potential fire is identified characterised in that said fire extinguishing medium comprises an aqueous suspension of expanded vermiculite.

Azeotrope-like compositions of cis-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene

This invention relates to azeotrope-like compositions, methods and systems having utility in numerous applications, and in particular, uses for azeotrope-like compositions comprising effective amounts of the compound cis-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene (Z-HF0-1336mzzm), which has the following structure: ##STR00001##
and another material selected from the group consisting of water, fluoroketones, alcohols, hydrochlorofluoroolefins, and combinations of two or more thereof. These compositions may be used in a wide variety of applications such as, blowing agents, refrigerants, heating agents, power cycle agents, cleaning agents, aerosol propellants, sterilization agents, lubricants, flavor and fragrance extractants, flammability reducing agents, and flame suppression agents.

Long-term fire retardant with magnesium sulfate and corrosion inhibitors and methods for making and using same

A forest fire retardant composition contains a retardant compound that includes a halide salt, a non-halide salt, a metal oxide, a metal hydroxide, a sulfate salt, or combinations thereof. The forest fire retardant composition may include at least one anhydrous salt and at least one hydrate salt. The sulfate salt may be magnesium sulfate. The magnesium sulfate hydrate has a formula MgSO.sub.4(H.sub.2O).sub.x, where x is about 1 to about 11. For example, x may be equal to at least one of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 or 11. The composition may be in the form of a dry concentrate, a liquid concentrate, or a final diluted product. The final diluted product is effective in suppressing, retarding, and controlling forest fires while exhibiting corrosion resistance and low toxicity.

Antifreeze formulations and sprinkler systems comprising improved antifreezes

Antifreezes are provided for deployment in wet sprinkler systems located in cold environments. The antifreezes allow for the wet sprinkler system to be actuated under temperatures below 32? F. Wet sprinklers, sprinkler systems, methods of providing for the control, suppression and/or extinguishment of a fire that occur in a cold environment, and methods of preventing wet sprinklers from freezing also are provided. The sprinklers, sprinkler systems and methods can be used in residential, commercial and storage settings.

A fire suppression agent includes a potassium salt solution and vermiculite particles stored in isolation from the potassium salt solution. The vermiculite particles remain isolated from the potassium salt solution until triggered to mix with the potassium salt solution upon a discharge event.

Plant type active antiflaming extinguishant and preparation method and application thereof

The invention discloses a plant type active antiflaming extinguishant and preparation method and application thereof, wherein the plant type active antiflaming extinguishant is mainly prepared by compounding 15-20% of plant anti-burning agent, 8-17% of plant composite flame retardant active agent and 63-82% of plant slag water, etc.; and mixed with water at a concentration of 1-5%, and the mixed liquid is filled into fire extinguishing equipments for supporting use. The plant type active flame retardant extinguishing agent provided by the present invention increases a variety of plant fruits, increases the different sources of plant protein, pectin, polyhydroxy compounds rich in tannin, lignin and anti-burning material, and obtains a stronger extinguishing function and an ideal extinguishing effect, which is beyond the reach of the existing fire extinguishing agent; raw material is easy to get and its price is low, and manufacturing process and required equipment are easy to access.

LONG-TERM FIRE RETARDANT WITH CORROSION INHIBITORS AND METHODS FOR MAKING AND USING SAME

A forest fire retardant composition contains a retardant compound that includes a phosphate salt. The phosphate salt may include diammonium phosphate, diammonium orthophosphate, monoammonium phosphate, monoammonium orthophosphate, monosodium phosphate, disodium phosphate, disodium phosphate hydrate, sodium ammonium phosphate, sodium ammonium phosphate hydrate, sodium tripolyphosphate, trisodium phosphate, or dipotassium phosphate, and combinations thereof. The forest fire retardant composition may include an ammonium source. The composition may be in the form of a dry concentrate, a liquid concentrate, or a final diluted product. The final diluted product is effective in suppressing, retarding, and controlling forest fires while exhibiting corrosion resistance and low toxicity.
