System and method for sensing cable fault detection in a saw

A method for detection of a fault in a sensing cable within a saw detects potential failures in a sensing cable that is part of an object detection system in the saw. The method includes generating a predetermined excitation signal transmitted through a first conductor and a second conductor in the sensing cable, detecting a return signal from the first conductor and the second conductor in the sensing cable in response to the predetermined excitation signal, identifying a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the return signal, and generating an output indicating a fault in the sensing cable in response to the SNR of the return signal being below a predetermined value.

A saw with a monitoring and safety system that utilizes vision and sensors designed to provide user feedback on safety and training. The saw having a wheel formed of an anodized main body with a non-anodized surface extending along the circumference of the groove of the wheel. The saw having low inertial energy design to stop the blade without mechanically grabbing the blade assuring multiple points of safety detection and triggering. The saw having an automatic guard to protect the user from slipping and hitting the blade even when the saw is not running. The saw being connected to a cloud based system that enables a safer ecosystem and cross statistic sharing of safety parameters.

Safety apparatus for protecting an operator of an electrically powered saw

There is provided an emergency braking apparatus for stopping travel of the blade of an electrically powered saw of the type incorporating a cutting table through which the blade of the saw passes during a cutting operation. The apparatus comprises a braking jaw and a movable jaw spaced apart from the braking jaw for reception of the blade of the saw between the braking jaw and the movable jaw. The apparatus also comprises a driver for driving the movable jaw from a retracted position into contact with a side face of the blade to force an opposite side the blade against the braking jaw and thereby clamp the blade between the braking jaw and the movable jaw, a pressure chamber for holding a fluid at a predetermined pressure, and an actuator operable in response to an emergency braking signal to release the pressurised fluid in the pressure chamber to drive the driver against the movable jaw whereby the movable jaw is driven into contact with the side face of the blade.
