Thus an external source of charging power can be connected through the opening in the exterior wall directly to the charging connector of the rechargeable power source for recharging the rechargeable power source while it is in the portable light.

The lens apparatus also includes a compression surface configured to compress the substrate to a heat sink to facilitate heat dissipation from the LED and a fastening feature configured to fasten the lens apparatus to the heat sink to provide an environmentally protective seal, so that when the lens apparatus is fastened to the heat sink the alignment feature aligns the LED to the selected position, the compression surface compresses the substrate to the heat sink, and the protective seal protects the LED from environmental conditions.

The lens body includes an inner cavity having an incident surface, an emergent surface, and a reflective surface extending between the incident surface and the emergent surface for providing total internal reflection. One LED light source is situated in the inner cavity. Light emitted from the LED light source is transmitted by the incident surface. At least portion of transmitted light by the incident surface is reflected by the reflective surface to the emergent surface so as to provide a narrow light beam angle perpendicular to a length direction of the LED module. The emergent surface has a plurality of micro structures for enlarging a light viewing angle in the length direction. A sign box using one or more LED modules is also disclosed.
