The signal may be for example a wave or a sequence of pulses. The signal may be provided in superposition with line power or the line power may be formed as the signal.

Light emitting diode retrofit lamp for high intensity discharge ballast

Provided is an LED retrofit lamp interfacing with a high intensity discharge (HID) ballast that includes a lighting source having a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs), one or more heat sink components dissipating heat generated by the LEDs, and an LED driver configured to operate the LEDs. The LED retrofit lamp is disposed within an HID housing and the HID ballast is electrically connected with the LED driver, and supplies power to the LED driver for operating the LEDs.

LED lamp

A lamp has an optically transmissive enclosure and a base. A tower extends from the base into the enclosure and supports an LED assembly in the enclosure. The LED assembly comprises a plurality of LEDs operable to emit light when energized through an electrical path from the base. The tower and the LED assembly are arranged such that the plurality of LEDs are disposed about the periphery of the tower in a band and face outwardly toward the enclosure to create a source of the light that appears as a glowing filament. The tower forms part of a heat sink that transmits heat from the LED assembly to the ambient environment. The LED assembly has a three-dimensional shape. An electrical interconnect connects a conductor to the heat sink where the conductor is in the electrical path between the LED assembly and the base.

The helical body portion has an outer cylindrical upstanding portion. The helical body portion extends from the base upwardly and has a helical groove disposed along an outer surface. The LED assembly has a strip including a plurality of LED elements that are in a spaced apart orientation. The strip is positionable in the helical groove of the helical body portion. The electrical drive is configured to supply power from the power source to the LED elements. The electrical drive is positioned within the cavity created by at least one of the base and the helical body portion.
