The hollow shaft portion defines an airflow passage forming part of an airflow pathway through the device and is arranged to extend into the open-ended passage of the cartridge. The hollow shaft portion comprises a plurality of apertures, and the heating element is one or more narrow regions of the hollow shaft portion between adjacent apertures.

The temperature monitoring and control device comprises a temperature signal generation unit and a signal processing unit. The temperature signal generation unit comprises a heating wire, a first end wire and a second end wire; the first and second end wires are made of different conductor materials; when the heating wire generates heat, an electromotive force signal is generated. The signal processing unit is configured for controlling to reduce an atomizing power of the heating wire or turn off a power supply circuit of the heating wire when the current temperature value is greater than or equal to a preset value. The technical effect is to keep the temperature of the heating wire in a suitable temperature range.

An aerosol-generating system is provided, including: a liquid storage portion including a container to hold a liquid aerosol-forming substrate and defining an opening at an end thereof; a heater assembly extending across the opening along a plane transverse to a longitudinal axis of the storage portion and including electrically conductive filaments having a substantially flat orientation; a capillary material between the storage portion and the assembly; and conductive contacts in electrical contact with contacts of the assembly, the storage portion being at a first side of the assembly, and first and second portions of a first airflow channel at a second side of the assembly, the first portion to direct air from outside the system in a direction towards a surface of the capillary material, and the second portion to direct air from the outside in a direction away from the surface before such air enters the first portion.
