Modular pressurized coal combustion (MPCC) for flexible generation
A modular combustion system for flexible energy generation is provided. The system comprises a plurality of combustion boilers, at least one oxidizer supply unit providing an oxidizer stream to the combustion boilers, at least one feeder to provide fuel to the combustion boilers, at least one particle removal unit to remove particles from a flue gas output stream from the combustion boilers, and a pollution removal unit to remove pollutant gases from the flue gas output stream. A process for flexible energy generation using the modular combustion system is disclosed that includes providing an oxidizer stream to a plurality of combustion boilers with at least one oxidizer supply unit, providing fuel to the plurality of combustion boilers with at least one feeder, removing particles from a flue gas output stream from the plurality of combustion boilers with at least one particle removal unit, and removing pollutant gases from a particle-free flue gas output stream with at least one pollution removal unit. A system for controlling wall heat flux in a pressurized coal combustion environment is disclosed that includes at least one burner; and at least one low-mixing, axial-flow boiler.
Water cooled CO boiler floor with screen gas distribution inlet
A carbon monoxide (CO) boiler or steam generator having a water cooled CO boiler floor with screen gas distribution inlet to enhance distribution of CO gas in a CO boiler. Either the front or rear wall tubes of the steam generator form an integral screen and the tubes continue, forming a membraned, gas tight enclosure. The floor has a knee to redirect the incoming waste CO gas up into the integral screen. The screen may be provided with tube erosion shields to prevent erosion of the screen tubes and to control the distribution of waste gas across the plan area of the furnace.
Power boiler having vertically mounted cylindrical combustion chamber
A ground supported power boiler is described combining a refractory lined and insulated conical floor; an insulated cylindrical combustion chamber; a cylindrical furnace with water tube wall; a rectangular convective section; a single vertical steam drum; tangential injection of the fuel and combustion air; means for fluidizing the fuel bed; means for selectively stripping particulates from the flue gases; multi-stage particulate stripping and filtering from flue gases, means for using the walls of steam drum as steam/water droplet separator, means for recirculating and capturing heat from the flue gases; means for pressurizing the interior of the boiler above atmospheric pressure; means for heating and drying fuel prior to feeding the fuel to the boiler; means for creating hydrogen shift reaction; means for eliminating any need for sootblowing; and designed to not require the use of an induced draft fan.
Once-through steam generator
A once-through steam generator includes a combustion chamber, the walls of which comprise vertically arranged evaporator pipes connected to one another in gas-tight fashion by pipe webs, through which evaporator pipes flows a flow medium from bottom to top. The evaporator pipes are combined by upstream inlet collectors to form more intensely and less intensely heated pipe groups. A feed water supply is assigned to respective inlet collectors. At least one regulating valve regulates throttling of the mass flow of the flow medium into the evaporator pipes. To determine a control variable for the regulating valve, temperature measurement device measures outlet temperatures of the flow medium exiting the evaporator pipes. Each of the more intensely and less intensely heated pipe groups is assigned to one of the inlet collectors and to an outlet collector, and each of the outlet collectors has one of the temperature measurement devices.

Boiler system controlling fuel to a furnace based on temperature of a structure in a superheater section
A boiler system is provided comprising: a furnace adapted to receive a fuel to be burned to generate hot working gases; a fuel supply structure associated with the furnace for supplying fuel to the furnace; a superheater section associated with the furnace and positioned to receive energy in the form of heat from the hot working gases; and a controller. The superheater section may comprise a platen including a tube structure with an end portion and a temperature sensor for measuring the temperature of the tube structure end portion and generating a signal indicative of the temperature of the tube structure end portion. The controller may be coupled to the temperature sensor for receiving and monitoring the signal from the sensor.
Ultra low NOx combustion for steam generator
A steam generator has a heat exchange chamber with an upstream end and a downstream end. The steam generator further has a burner that injects primary reactants, including fuel and combustion air, into the chamber at the upstream end. A first branch of a once-through water line is located within the chamber downstream of the burner. A second branch of the once-through water line is connected in parallel with the first branch, and is located within the chamber downstream of the first branch. A fuel injector is arranged to inject staged fuel into the chamber at a staged location downstream of the first branch of the once-through water line.
