Open Sight Glass System
20190003702 · 2019-01-03 ·

A sight glass system that simplifies the way a sight glass is cleaned and accessed during servicing a boiler or tank. This system allows someone to treat the boiler or tank with a cleaning liquid solution without taking off the pressure release valve of the vessel to pour in the solution. The cleaning process is now achieved easily with the sight glass system by taking off the service valve head cap to pour the treatment through the sight glass and into the boiler or tank with the shut off valves open. The system consist of a sight glass that is connected to a top and bottom valve having a removable threaded cap, a female threaded aperture on one side, and a threaded protrusion that secures the sight glass via a fastening system of a rubber washer, O-ring, and wing nut respectively. Furthermore, the top valve is designed in such a way that will allow the sight glass when not secured to slide up and out when the fastening system is unfastened. By unfastening the fastening system, the wing nut can move freely down the sight glass allowing for easy removal of the sight glass through the top valve when the cap is removed along with the rubber washer and O-ring. The top and bottom valves are connected to the main water shutoff valves respectively via a threaded member that is screwed on to the side of the valves containing a female threaded aperture.

System and method for drum level control in a drum of a heat recovery steam generator

A system includes the HRSG having an economizer disposed along a fluid flow path, and a drum disposed along the fluid flow path downstream of the economizer. The HRSG also includes a drum level control module configured to modulate an amount of the fluid provided to the drum along the fluid flow path and a supplemental control module configured to control an amount of the fluid in a different manner than the drum level control module. The heat recovery steam generator also includes a drum level event controller configured to monitor a rate of change of a level of the fluid in the drum. If the rate of change is over a threshold value, a signal goes to the supplemental control. If the rate of change is less than or equal to the threshold value, the signal goes to the drum level control module.

POSITION DETECTION IN HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT USING REFLECTED RADIATED ENERGY

Disclosed in one aspect is an echo-ranging sensor system that gives reliable and accurate measurements when used in high-temperature(s), high-pressure(s), and over all hostile environment(s). An example of a novel application is for sensing, monitoring, and controlling water level measurement in boilers where the environment is extremely challenging and caustic. Although disclosed systems are not limited to the ultrasonic frequency range, many applications in which they will most likely be used would work best with transducers that operate at ultrasonic frequencies. This disclosure includes a robust and optimized mechanical and electronic design for mounting, and a design for transducers that are thermally matched and allow transmission and reception of energy with precision in harsh environments and can also be used with a controller. The system performs in high-temperature, high-pressure, and can withstand extreme conditions, such as boiling water, steam, and other gaseous substances and caustic chemicals.

Method for determining the liquid level in a boiler

A method for determining a liquid level in a boiler of an apparatus having a temperature sensor for sensing a temperature which is indicative of a temperature of the liquid inside the boiler, includes inducing a temporary deflection of the temperature sensed by the temperature sensor; determining an evaluation temperature sensed by the temperature sensor after inducing the deflection; and determining the liquid level from at least the evaluation temperature. The evaluation temperature is determined by monitoring the deflection and by defining an extreme value of the deflection as the evaluation temperature.
