Engineered surface for increased drag on article
An article having a panel and a trim piece. The panel may have at least a first panel edge, an outer surface, and a plurality of integrally-formed flaps that extend from the outer surface. The trim piece may be affixed to the panel proximate the first panel edge and may secure an end portion of at least one of the plurality of integrally-formed flaps between the trim piece and the outer surface of the panel. A plurality of panels may form, or be secured to, a garment in different orientations. Each of the plurality of panels may be separated by one or more trim pieces.
Systems and Methods for Continence Training
A medical device for reducing incontinence can be dimensioned to be placed in an interior region of a subject surrounded by muscle tissue. The medical device can include a first balloon having an interior space containing a fluid. The proximal end of a first fluid conduit can be coupled to an outlet of the first balloon. The medical device can also include a pressure sensing detector coupled to a distal end of the first fluid conduit. The pressure sensing detector can include a second balloon. The second balloon can also be in fluid communication with the interior space of the first balloon. The first balloon can be compressed from the contraction of the muscle tissue, which can displace a portion of the fluid within the interior space of the first balloon. The portion of fluid moves towards the second balloon and causes the second balloon to increase in interior volume thereby indicating a contraction force of the muscle tissue.
Portable Oral Positive Expiratory Pressure-Generating Devices with Variable Expiratory Airflow Resistances
A positive expiratory pressure-generating device for reducing breathlessness in a subject with one or more pulmonary disorders is disclosed. The device is rigid and hollow and can be held in the mouth of the subject. The device has at least one air chamber, at least one opening in the portion of the device that is held in the mouth and at least one additional airflow orifice. The device is configured to increase expiratory resistance and can be supported by the mouth of the subject without the need for additional support by hands, another device or other means.
Resistance device
A resistance device for providing resistance. The device includes a flexible pulling element, a resilient arrangement and a transmission. The resilient arrangement has a first portion and a second portion. The second portion is resiliently movable relative to the first portion. The transmission connects the flexible pulling element to the resilient arrangement such that pulling upon the flexible pulling element moves the second portion relative to the first portion, and upon release of the flexible pulling element the resilient arrangement retracts the flexible pulling element. The transmission is a reduction arrangement such that pulling the flexible pulling element a distance moves the second portion, relative to the first portion, no more than a proportion of the distance. The proportion is no more than half.
Unsupported Pelvic / Spine, Third Class Lever Exercise System and Method
The invention is embodied in an exercise system that can allow its user to counterbalance the effects associated with a predominantly sedentary lifestyle though a fitness device that comprises a combination of (a) supporting the lower body in a manner that permits a user's upper body to act as a third class lever with the user's hips operating as fulcrum and (b) engaging in resistance exercises with the upper body in a horizontal position, unsupported above the greater trochanter.
TONGUE STRENGTHENING DEVICE
Disclosed is a tongue strengthening device that includes a handle on one end and a bulb structure on the other end. The bulb is resiliently flexible, and enables a user to exercise their tongue by repeatedly compressing and releasing the bulb. Provided is a system or kit that includes multiple tongue strengthening devices having different compression specifications that allow a patient to graduate to devices which are harder to compress as the patient gains tongue strength.
VELOCITY BASED SAFETY SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR FITNESS MACHINES
Training machine and a method of controlling a training machine comprising a resistance component configured to provide at least a resistance during training, a control configured to control the resistance component during training and a safety component configured to monitor the training machine on the basis of velocity and/or any derivative thereof.
Exercise apparatus
A piece of exercise equipment particularly for improved strength training exercises. More particularly, the invention relates to equipment that allows the user to vary tension when performing different exercises. The present invention is specifically designed for improved exercise through the variability of a tension component for use in such exercises as the plank exercise, sit-ups, push-ups and supine pull-ups that includes a core support, a guide arm, a head support, and a foot support that work in conjunction to most optimally support the user. The core support, the head support and the foot support are all connected, supported, and elevated from the floor by a central support system.
The transmission is a reduction arrangement such that pulling the flexible pulling element a distance moves the second portion, relative to the first portion, not more than a proportion of the distance. The proportion is not more than half.
Computerized exercise apparatus
A training, rehabilitation, and recovery system comprises an exercise apparatus including a user interface member coupled to a plurality of links and joints, brakes capable of resisting movement of at least a subset of the links or joints, and sensors capable of sensing movement at the joints or the user interface member. The system also includes a processor configured to receive from the sensors positional data of the links or joints over an initial movement of the apparatus by a user, from which positional coordinates of the user interface member are calculated and a reference trajectory is established. An end space is defined based on the reference trajectory. Over a subsequent movement of the apparatus by the user, the processor receives additional positional data and determines a completion of a repetition based on the positional coordinates of the subsequent movement and the defined end space.
