A pyrolysis reactor system includes a reactor and a contactor mounted above the reactor. The reactor has a shell, an inlet and an outlet. A central shaft runs along its axis and supports agitation blades in a counter-helical arrangement, and an auger. Rotation of the auger in one direction feeds feedstock into the vessel, and in the opposite direction removes char at the end of a batch. The contactor includes four elements with a frusto-conical part supported on vertical support arms, and being connected to a disc by legs. The contactor elements allow short chains to pass through apertures while long chains condense on their surfaces or on the vessel wall surface. There is dynamic tuning of carbon number of gases flowing downstream by active temperature and pressure control at the contactor.

Burner tube

A system and method uses a combustor and gasifier to burn a primary dirty fuel, such as waste materials or high-polluting fossil fuels, and a secondary low-polluting fuel, such as biomass fuels, for co-generation of electricity while reducing harmful emissions. The primary fuel is burned at least partially through the use of an improved burner tube. Dirty exhaust from a combustor is scrubbed by a gasifier by reforming the combustors exhaust gases into a clean-burning producer gas (syn-gas). The secondary fuel and oxygen are added to the dirty exhaust in the gasifier to create gas, char and ash. The gas powers an engine or turbine that turns a generator, or a boiler, Stirling engine, or Organic Rankine Cycle power plant, and releases a cleaner exhaust.

A method and system for cost effectively converting a feedstock using thermal plasma, or other styles of gassifiers, into a feedwater energy transfer system. The feedstock can be any organic material, or fossil fuel. The energy transferred in the feedwater is converted into steam which is then injected into the low turbine of a combined cycle power plant. Heat is extracted from gas product issued by a gassifier and delivered to a power plant via its feedwater system. The gassifier is a plasma gassifier and the gas product is syngas. In a further embodiment, prior to performing the step of extracting heat energy, there is provided the further step of combusting the syngas in an afterburner. An air flow, and/or EGR flow is provided to the afterburner at a rate that is varied in response to an operating characteristic of the afterburner. The air flow to the afterburner is heated.
