Person support apparatuses having exercise therapy features

Person support apparatuses having exercise features are disclosed herein. In various embodiments, a person support apparatus includes a support surface, a footboard, a sensor, and a passive resistance mechanism. The support surface has a foot end and a head end, and the footboard is located near the foot end of the support surface, extending above the support surface. The footboard may include a pressure surface positioned to receive a pressing force. The footboard is freely slidable from an extended position to a retracted position with respect to the foot end of the support surface. The sensor provides a signal indicative of a magnitude of the pressing force incident on the pressure surface of the footboard. The passive resistance mechanism is coupled to the footboard, and resists a motion of the footboard to the extended position.

COMBINATION MASSAGE TABLE WITH ONE OR MORE RESISTANCE BANDS

A combination massage table with one or more resistance bands (hereinafter, a combination table) is disclosed. In some embodiments, the combination table may comprise: a massage table; the one or more resistance bands; and a means for attaching the one or more resistance bands to the massage table; such that a client using the combination table receives at least one improved health benefit as compared against massage therapy without any resistance band use. Furthermore, methods for using the combination table are disclosed. Such methods may comprise: preparing the combination table for use; preparing the client so the client is laying on top of an upper surface of the combination table; and massaging the client while the client at least intermittently engages one or more resistance bands that are attached to the combination table; wherein in the at least intermittent engagement of the one or more resistance bands while the client is being massaged results in the at least one improved health benefit to the client.

A patient support apparatus includes a frame. The frame includes a first track and a second track. An articulated deck is coupled to the frame. The articulated deck includes a head section, a seat section, a thigh section, and a foot section. The seat section includes a stationary frame coupled to the frame and a moveable frame that is moveable relative to the stationary frame. The moveable frame includes a first roller that moves along the first track and a second roller that moves along the second track when the moveable frame moves relative to the stationary frame.

MAGNETIC FRICTION AND VISCOUS CYLINDER-PISTON RESISTANCE PORTABLE EXERCISE EQUIPMENT
20170050069 · 2017-02-23 ·

Pairs of magnetic disks and reciprocation piston-cylinders filled with viscous fluid are used to provide friction for a portable exercise harness. The viscous fluid in cylinder-piston push-pull configuration provide resistance to a extension cable for the physical exercise. The exercise apparatus fits in a harness for travel and easy attachment to ordinary household furniture and fixtures.

Physical Therapy Device and Methods for Use Thereof

The present application relates to a physical therapy device to strengthen and prevent atrophy in muscles for use while seated in a chair or a wheelchair or while lying in a bed. The physical therapy device includes a back rest; right and left upper arm rests coupled to the back rest by a first connector; and right and left lower arm rests coupled to the right and left upper arm rests, respectively, by a second connector. Each lower arm rest comprises a handle. Each upper arm rest is configured to move towards the back rest at the first connector to fold flush against the back rest. The physical therapy device further comprises an extender coupled to the back rest; right and left upper leg units coupled to the extender by a third connector; and right and left lower leg units coupled to the right and left upper leg units, respectively, by a fourth connector. Each lower leg unit comprises a stirrup.

REHABILITATION MECHANISM FOR PATIENTS CONFINED TO BED AND BED COMPRISING THE REHABILITATION MECHANISM
20170035638 · 2017-02-09 · ·

The invention relates to a rehabilitation mechanism (30) implemented for planned, automated rehabilitation of at least the joints, muscles, and tendons of the legs (92) of a bedridden patient (90) and comprising at least: a foot module (40) for operatively connecting to the feet (94) of the bedridden patient (90), a knee module (50) for operatively connecting to the knee joints (93) of the bedridden patient (90), and a control module (60) for controlling planned rehabilitation motions of at least the joints, muscles, and tendons of the legs (92) of the bedridden patient (90) by means of the foot (40) and/or knee module (50).

The invention is further characterized in that at least the knee module (50) is implemented as a module for disposing between the patient (90) and the mattress (20) and supported directly or indirectly on a bed (11) or mattress frame (21).

The modular design of the rehabilitation mechanism (30) has the advantage that bedridden and particularly intensive-care patients (90) can receive planned, automated rehabilitation directly in the bed (10), wherein said bed can be implemented as a hospital bed, clinical bed, gurney, and/or intensive-care bed, without requiring high-risk transfer between beds and/or the ability to cooperatively contribute.

The present invention is drawn to a novel multi-segment spine structure comprising a pair of resistance elements connected to the spine at one distal end and a second pair of resistance elements connected to the opposite distal end of the spine. At each distal end, each resistance element is mounted on a lateral support projecting orthogonally from the axis of the spine. As a result, this system anatomically resembles four extremities branching out at each corner of a human torso. Climbing-type exercises while in a supine position can be performed for conditioning a wide variety of major muscle groups. The system further comprises a single strap with two endpoints, where each endpoint is connectable to different portions of the spine assembly. The strap comprises a plurality of hand loops that the user can use, while the user's legs are pushing against the pedals and/or footwear to independently perform abdominal crunches.
