A char collection/transfer chamber is located below the perforated grate for collecting at least the char and boichar that passes therethrough, and a conveying mechanism transfers the char and boichar out of the combustion/pyrolization system for collection and use. An air plenum chamber cools the char collection/transfer chamber such that the supplied secondary air becomes heated, and the heated secondary air flows into the char collection/transfer chamber and through the perforated grate into the combustion/pyrolization chamber to provide secondary combustion air.

The hot air discharges through a filter cap at the upper end of the expansion pipe which retains a filter assembly of multiple screens against the upper end of the expansion pipe. Dust and small particles pass through the filter assembly to be carried away by hot air up the crematory chimney. Larger particles are retained by the filter assembly, and may be discharged downwardly from the vacuum head into a receptacle when the input compressed air is discontinued.

In this case, the average particle size of the at least one fine fraction is smaller than the average particle size of the coarse fraction. The separating grate has at least in certain regions air feeds that are distributed over its entire width and via which air is fed in a controlled manner to the slag, and the air feeds are isolated from the openings and formed separately.
