Integrated chemical looping air separation in large-scale oxy-fuel plants

An integrated chemical looping air separation unit (5) in a large-scale oxy-fuel power generating plant takes a portion of recycled flue gas (6) via a recycling conduit (7) through a heat exchanger (8) to a reduction reactor (9). The reduction reactor (9) exchanges oxidized metal oxide with an oxidation reactor (11) via transfer means (10) which return reduced metal oxide from the reduction reactor (9) to the oxidation reactor (11). This enables the reduction reactor (9) to feed a mixture of oxygen and recycled flue gas into the boiler (13) of the power generating plant in a more energy efficient manner than conventional oxy-fuel power plants using air separation units.

A combustion-support-gas bypass line is provided to cause combustion support gas to bypass a preheater. A combustion-support-gas flow control damper is provided in the combustion-support-gas bypass line. An inlet temperature of a deduster is measured by a temperature sensor and the inlet temperature measured by the temperature sensor is inputted to a controller and is compared with a set temperature more than an acid dew-point preliminarily set in the controller. On the basis of a comparison result, an opening-degree control signal is outputted from the controller to the combustion-support-gas flow control damper so as to make the inlet temperature to a set temperature more than an acid dew-point.

An integrated fuel combustion system with gas separation (adsorptive, absorptive, membrane or other suitable gas separation) separates a portion of carbon dioxide from a combustion gas mixture and provides for recycle of separated carbon dioxide to the intake of a fuel combustor for combustion. A process for carbon dioxide separation and recycle includes: admitting combustion gas to an adsorptive gas separation system contactor containing adsorbent material; adsorbing a portion of carbon dioxide; recovering a first product stream depleted in carbon dioxide for release or use; desorbing carbon dioxide from the adsorbent material and recovering a desorbed second product stream enriched in carbon dioxide for sequestration or use; admitting a conditioning and/or desorption fluid into the contactor and desorbing a second portion of carbon dioxide to recover a carbon dioxide enriched conditioning stream; and recycling a portion of the carbon dioxide enriched conditioning stream to an inlet of fuel combustor to pass through the fuel combustor for combustion.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR OXYGEN PRODUCTION AND ENERGY STORAGE

The present invention provides a method and system (1) for producing oxygen. Oxygen-carrier particles are transferred between a reduction process (10) and an oxidation process (15) connected to form a chemical looping process. The reduction process produces oxygen-depleted carrier particles and an exhaust gas mixture. Oxygen is separated from the exhaust gas mixture, preferably by a condenser (5). The oxygen-depleted carrier particles are returned to the oxidation process for regenerating the oxygen-depleted carrier particles with oxygen. The reduction process is performed during a first time period and the oxidation process is performed in a second time period.
