INTERMITTENT PILOT IGNITION GAS VALVE HAVING PROTECTION AGAINST NEGATIVE PRESSURE FOR INTERNAL DIAPHRAGMS

Provided are embodiments of a gas valve for an intermittent pilot ignition system. The gas valve includes features designed to address the buildup of negative pressure in a fuel line connected to the gas valve that could cause internal valve diaphragms to open, drawing fuel from the gas valve. In embodiments, the gas valve includes a system of check valves designed to seal off the gas valve when a negative pressure develops. In other embodiments, the gas valve includes a relief valve having a relief port so that air is able to enter the valve proximate to the inlet port so as to avoid building a negative pressure sufficient to open the diaphragms. In both cases, the valve remains primed with fuel for subsequent ignition. The gas valve is envisioned to be useful for a variety of pilot operated systems.

The method further includes determining, by the controller of the water heater system, a deviation of a flame current from a flame current average value and determining, by the controller of the water heater system, a deviation of a pulse-width-modulation (PWM) parameter from a PWM parameter average value. The method also includes providing a notification related to a combustion system of the water heater system based on at least the deviation of the duration of the pre-purge operation from the pre-purge duration average value, the deviation of the flame current from the flame current average value, and the deviation of the PWM parameter from the PWM parameter average value.

Outside air is fed to the burner via a conduit, and is connected to an inlet of the system. An outlet of the system is connected to the burner via the back plate. A damper within the system is translatable between open and closed positions for allowing and blocking air flow, respectively. A sensor measures an air flow parameter of air flow to the burner. The sensor communicates with the controller, which shuts down the burner if the parameter measured by the sensor meets a predetermined threshold value. An assembly installer may test for proper sensor and controller functions by translating the damper to the closed position and blocking outside air flow.

Apparatus and method for reducing ignitor activation time in an oil-fired burner

A controller for an oil fired burner for operating the ignitor initially in an interrupted mode, and instructing the burner to switch to intermittent ignition for a plurality of call-for-heat (CFH) cycles if it is determined that the flame quality is insufficient during the flame-proved period. On the last predetermined iteration cycle, a reset condition occurs; setting a counter back to zero, and a retry ignition is performed to operate once again in interrupted ignition mode. When the apparatus is in interrupted ignition mode, if the current CFH cycle ends normally by satisfying the call, the ignition will remain in the interrupted ignition mode.

IGNITION-BASED PROTOCOLS FOR PELLET GRILLS

Pellet grills including a control system that implements, manages, and/or controls various ignition-based protocols are disclosed. An example pellet grill includes a cooking chamber, a burn pot, an ignitor, and a controller. The ignitor extends into the burn pot and is configured to ignite pellet fuel located within the burn pot. The controller is configured to detect a temperature pattern of the cooking chamber corresponding to a flame out condition of the burn pot. The controller is further configured, in response to detecting the temperature pattern, to command the ignitor to activate during a first duration. The controller is further configured to determine, following expiration of the first duration, whether a temperature of the cooking chamber increased during the first duration. The controller is further configured, in response to determining that the temperature has not increased during the first duration, to command the ignitor to activate during a second duration.

The circuit assembly comprises a plurality of diodes and is configured to enable detection of and distinguishing between a failure of the igniter, a failure of the inducer relay, and a failure of the igniter relay as determined by a waveform of the control signal at the input of the control for a given one of a plurality of operational states of the control.
