Internal combustion engine
A compressed self-ignition type internal combustion engine includes a fuel injection nozzle provided such that a plurality of injection holes are exposed from a cylinder head of the internal combustion engine to a combustion chamber, and a plurality of hollow ducts configured such that an inlet and an outlet are exposed to the combustion chamber. The plurality of ducts are configured such that each fuel spray injected from the plurality of injection holes of the fuel injection nozzle passes from the inlet to the outlet. The internal combustion engine includes a heating device for heating at least one of the plurality of ducts.

Disclosed is a piston ported two-stroke compression ignition internal combustion engine comprising: a cylinder having a fixed closed end, and a piston for reciprocation within the cylinder, wherein the closed end of the cylinder and the piston together define a combustion chamber therebetween; at least one heater to heat the combustion chamber; and a controller to control the heater to heat the combustion chamber when the controller determines that a temperature of the combustion chamber has fallen below a threshold temperature during reciprocation of the piston within the cylinder.
HEATER AND GLOW-PLUG PROVIDED THEREWITH
A heater of the disclosure includes: a rod-like ceramic body; a heat-generating resistor including an embedded portion embedded in the ceramic body and an exposed portion drawn out to an outer periphery face of the ceramic body; a metallic member electrically connected to the heat-generating resistor; and a conductive joining member including titanium, the conductive joining member being configured to join the exposed portion and the metallic member together. The conductive joining member includes a first portion in layer form, in which titanium exists in segregation condition, located along an interface with the exposed portion; and at least one second portion in granular form, in which titanium exists in segregation condition, located away from the first portion.
Hot surface igniters and methods of making same
A method of making a hot surface igniter is described. A silicon carbide composition that includes both fines fraction and a coarse fraction is sintered in a nitrogen and argon reducing atmosphere in a manner that controls the incorporation of nitrogen with in the lattice of recrystallized silicon carbide. The controlled incorporation of nitrogen in the lattice provides enhanced control over heating and electrical properties, while simultaneously achieving a lower surface area fully recrystallized structure for oxidation resistance and long service life.
IN SITU VALUATION OF AUTO-IGNITION QUALITY OF FUEL IN COMPRESSION IGNITION ENGINES
A system for an engine to determine in situ under specified conditions the auto-ignition quality of the fuel used in a compression ignition engine is provided. The system may include an ion current sensor. The ion current sensor may access an engine cylinder for obtaining ion current data. A control unit may be in communication with the ion current sensor for receiving the ion current data. The control unit being configured to determine the auto-ignition quality of the fuel based on features of the ion current data.
Igniter for gas turbine engine
There is disclosed an igniter for a gas turbine engine including: a base; a glow plug heater rod extending from the base along an axis and terminating in a rod end; and a fuel receiver adjacent the heater rod, the fuel receiver including a portion located closest to the heater rod, the rod end protruding axially relative to the axis from the fuel receiver portion located closest to the heater rod.
METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE RESISTANCE TEMPERATURE CHARACTERISTIC OF A CERAMIC GLOW PLUG
A method is described for determining the resistance temperature characteristic of a ceramic glow plug, wherein the glow plug is heated at a specified power, wherein before the heating it is first determined whether the glow plug is an aged glow plug, and then, if the glow plug has not been detected as an aged glow plug, the glow plug is heated at a first specified power and the resistance value thereby achieved is assigned to a temperature that is anticipated to be the final temperature when heating a factory-outlet glow plug at this first power, or if the glow plug has been detected as an aged glow plug, the glow plug is heated at a reduced power which is smaller than the first power, and the resistance value achieved thereby is assigned to the same temperature that is also anticipated when heating a factory-outlet glow plug at the first power.
Heater and glow plug including the same
A heater includes: a ceramic body having a rod-like shape; and a heat generating resistor embedded in the ceramic body, the heat generating resistor including a first straight line section, a second straight line section which is disposed alongside the first straight line section, and a folded section which connects the first straight line section and the second straight line section, in a transverse cross section of the heater, the first straight line section having a shape having a first major axis, the second straight line section having a shape having a second major axis, the second major axis being inclined with respect to the first major axis, a centroid of the first straight line section and the second straight line section being deviated from a centroid of the ceramic body to a side on which a distance between the first major axis and the second major axis is narrower.

Pressure measuring glow plug
Described is a pressure measuring glow plug with a housing, a glow pin, which projects out of the housing and can be displaced in its longitudinal direction relative to the housing against a restoring force. A sensor acquires the position of the glow pin or a pressure acting on the glow pin, and a center pole is arranged in the housing and electrically connected to the glow pin via a contact spring. This disclosure provides that the contact spring is a U-shaped, bent metal strip, which in a middle section has a reduced width, and broadens from the middle section toward its two ends.
