Disclosed is a method for detecting domestic hot water use by a sanitary fitting during an observation period by analysing data relative to volumes of water passing through a water meter, the method including: receiving a first item of data, noted V1, representing the maximum volume of fluid measured over a predetermined period, preferably equal to 5 minutes; receiving a second item of data, noted V2, representing the maximum volume of fluid measured by the meter during another predetermined period, preferably equal to 15 minutes; and detecting that domestic hot water has been used when V1>15 litres and V220 litres.

Push Pin Bearing Mechanism for Actuators
20210055006 · 2021-02-25 ·

A thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) assembly or automatic temperature balanced actuator (ABA) assembly controls a manifold assembly through a push pin bearing mechanism. The push pin bearing mechanism comprises a push pin that moves in a linear direction responsive to rotational movement of a motor gear that is coupled through a helical gear. Rotational movement of the push pin is prevented by a ball bearing assembly. Movement of the push pin is transferred to a manifold pin, which in turn, controls the manifold assembly. Because the push pin moves in a linear rather than a rotational fashion, erosion of the mated manifold pin is substantially reduced with respect to transitional approaches.

Hot water tank

A water heater includes a water tank and a flow-through heating element. The water tank contains heated water. The flow-through heating element is located in the lower portion of the water tank and heats water as water is passed through an interior channel of the heating element. In another configuration, the water heater further includes a recirculation line and the heating element further includes an input end external of the water tank to receive water to be heated and an output end to output heated water into the water tank. The recirculation line transports water from the water tank to the input end of the heating element that is external of the water tank.

System and method for monitoring a property

There are provided systems and methods for monitoring a property using a system of sensor units in one or more premises on the property that can interface with respective utilities entering the premises or being generated by appliances on the premises with a minimal of effort and without requiring modification of the utility's equipment or the appliance. The systems and methods are connectable to a cloud-based monitoring, analytics and notification system via a long range network connection directly from one or more of the sensor units. The system of sensors can also incorporate primary and secondary units with at least one primary unit capable of communicating directly to the cloud-based system/server via a long-range connection with the secondary units sending data to the cloud via the primary unit by communicating at the property via a short-range communication connection. There are also provided various sensor units for specifically monitoring water flow and water leakage, flooding, sump pump operability, levels within water softeners and other fluid containing vessels, electrical power usage, furnace operations, among others as described herein.

Methods and system for controlling a combination boiler
10914475 · 2021-02-09 · ·

A combination boiler provides heated water to a boiler loop and domestic hot water (DHW) to a domestic water loop. The combination boiler includes a primary heat exchanger (PHE) connected to the boiler loop and a burner to provide heat to the primary heat exchanger. A secondary heat exchanger (SHE) transfers heat energy from the boiler loop to the domestic water loop. A controller monitors a PHE inlet temperature and a DHW output temperature, obtains a pre-heat initialization temperature threshold and a pre-heat cancellation temperature threshold, and detects a low temperature condition. A pre-heat operation is initiated responsive to the low temperature condition by circulating heated water from the PHE to the SHE. The burner is selectively fired at least in part according to an outlet temperature of the PHE.
