HVAC systems with evaporator bypass and supply air recirculation and methods of using same
11549714 · 2023-01-10 · ·

An HVAC system includes an evaporator coil disposed between a return air duct and a supply air duct. The system includes a compressor fluidically connected to the evaporator coil, and a blower for providing a flow of air through the HVAC system. The HVAC system includes a supply air recirculation line with a recirculation damper and an evaporator bypass line with a bypass damper. A controller of the HVAC determines a recirculation portion of a flow of air and causes the recirculation damper to move to divert the recirculation portion to the recirculation line, so the air recirculates through the HVAC system. The controller determines a bypass portion of a flow of air and causes the bypass damper to move to divert the bypass portion to the bypass line, so the bypass portion does not contact the evaporator coil.

An HVAC system includes a first air quality sensor and a second air quality sensor. The system contains a controller which calculates a differential between the first air quality sensor and the second air quality sensor. The differential is compared to a threshold. If the threshold is satisfied, a fan is engaged which may, reducing the air quality differential as sensed by the first and second air quality sensor.

INTERACTIVE TEMPERATURE CONTROL SYSTEM

Methods, systems, and devices for an interactive environmental control system are described. In some examples, operating temperatures for individual zones of an environment may be determined based on inputs received from occupants of the respective zones. For example, a building may be separated into zones, and environmental conditions at each zone may be monitored and adjusted independently. Each occupant of a zone may update their environmental preference and the system may utilize the user inputs to set and adjust an operating temperature for the respective zone based on the occupants' preferences. In some examples, the system may implement machine learning techniques to predict and set operating conditions for the zones based on inputs, such as a history of inputs, from building occupants (e.g., from occupants of a respective zone).

Air conditioner units and methods of operating the same are provided. A method of operating an air conditioner unit includes measuring an ambient temperature and estimating a setpoint temperature of the air conditioner unit. The method also includes inputting the measured ambient temperature and the estimated setpoint temperature into a closed-loop control algorithm. The method further includes setting a compressor speed of the variable speed compressor based on the output of the closed-loop control algorithm. An air conditioner unit may include a controller, and the controller may be configured for performing the method.

A system and a method for controlling temperature in different zones of a premises. A method includes receiving a measurement of temperature sensed by a first fire detector positioned at a first zone of a premises. The method further includes receiving a measurement of temperature sensed by a second fire detector positioned at a second zone of the premises. The method also includes controlling the temperature by a thermostat in the first zone based on the measurement of the sensed temperature received from the first fire detector and in the second zone based on the measurement of the sensed temperature received from the second fire detector.

Measuring lighting levels using a visible light sensor

A visible light sensor may be configured to sense environmental characteristics of a space using an image of the space. The visible light sensor may be controlled in one or more modes, including a daylight glare sensor mode, a daylighting sensor mode, a color sensor mode, and/or an occupancy/vacancy sensor mode. In the daylight glare sensor mode, the visible light sensor may be configured to decrease or eliminate glare within a space. In the daylighting sensor mode and the color sensor mode, the visible light sensor may be configured to provide a preferred amount of light and color temperature, respectively, within the space. In the occupancy/vacancy sensor mode, the visible light sensor may be configured to detect an occupancy/vacancy condition within the space and adjust one or more control devices according to the occupation or vacancy of the space. The visible light sensor may be configured to protect the privacy of users within the space via software, a removable module, and/or a special sensor.

Systems and methods for air flow circulation are described which utilize one or more air conditioning units as well as transfer grilles to move cooler air from one space to another. The transfer grilles can include bi-directional in-line fans to move air between spaces in discrete ducts located between the spaces. Motorized dampers can be controlled by a controller that receives information about various rooms and areas from temperature and occupancy sensors within those rooms or areas. In this manner, conditioned air can be directed to those rooms that are occupied and whose temperature needs correction based on a thermostat setting, and use of the air conditioning unit can be avoided when a cool air source is present in another space.
