SOLAR ENERGY COLLECTOR
20240295344 · 2024-09-05 ·

A solar energy collector includes a body, wherein the body has a geometric shape with a hollow interior. The body has multiple openings arranged at intervals around a Y-axis to allow a light ray to enter, and the openings are distributed along a Z-axis at different height positions. This arrangement reduces light exposure and disperses most of the thermal energy to be absorbed within the body. The light ray enters the interior of the body after being concentrated and reflected by a light path mechanism. Once inside the collector body, the light ray will be continuously reflected until it is absorbed, maximizing the utilization rate of the light ray.

The present invention relates to an improved solar energy concentrating system. The system comprises a dual axis sun tracking paraboloid dish collector on a polar mount, with a re-reflecting mirror in top of the paraboloid dish, which reflects the concentrated solar irradiation into an opening in the paraboloid dish into a light pipe and with a movable third mirror redirects the light into a second light pipe along the polar axis, which with a fourth fixed mirror, sends the concentrated solar irradiation into a third light pipe to the cavity receiver. The invention replaces the need of flexible connectors to accommodate the movement of the mirror, with a combination of mirrors and light pipes, transferring the solar irradiation to a cavity-receiver. Dual axis tracking systems can capture more solar energy, on a more constant basis throughout the day and the year, and by reflecting directly into the cavity-receiver, thermal losses are minimized.

Electromagnetic wave concentrator and absorber

An electromagnetic black hole may be fabricated as concentric shells having a permittivity whose variation is at least as great as an inverse square dependence on the radius of the structure. Such a structure concentrates electromagnetic energy incident thereon over a broad range of angles to an operational region near the center of curvature of the structure. Devices or materials may be placed in the operational region so as to convert the electromagnetic energy to electrical signals or to heat. Applications included solar energy harvesting and heat signature detectors.

Splitting means split the radiation spectrum, preferably using prism, set of prisms, diffraction grating, or set of beam splitters. Second one lens or mirror is configured to collect the radiation separately for each wavelength range. At least one fiber optic cable is configured to transfer the radiation to electromagnetically or electrically operated appliance, device or machine.

SUNLIGHT COLLECTION SYSTEM WITH ASYMMETRIC CATADIOPTRIC OPTICS

The system captures and concentrates sunlight for transmission to interior spaces or to a PV system. A solar collector uses arrayed refractive lenses, opposing concave focusing mirrors, and a movable coupling sheet forming part of a lightguide. The lenses and mirrors have an asymmetric shape, such as having aspect ratios of 3:4 or 1:2, so as to have an asymmetric aperture to better receive light at the different ranges of angles of the sun's rays over the course of a year. The long axis of the apertures is generally oriented in an East-West. The movable sheet contains small angled mirrors, and the sheet is translated to position the angled mirrors at the focal points of the sunlight for maximum deflection of the sunlight to an output of the collection system. A position sensor provides feedback regarding the position of the angled mirrors relative to the focal points.

Systems for cost-effective concentration and utilization of solar energy

The present invention is primarily directed to cost-effective systems for using large reflective elements that track the sun on two axes to concentrate solar energy onto a receiver that can convert the sun's optical energy to a form usable for extensive displacement of combustion of fossil fuels. The structures of the tracker frame, tracking mechanism and tracker supports are co-optimized with the optical elements and the receiver for high efficiency, low cost, and ease of assembly, making moderate and large-scale implementations cost-competitive with fossil fuels for peak power, and, with suitable storage, for base-load power and dispatchable peaking power in sunny locations. Improvement to small-tracker two-axis systems and one-axis tracking systems that focus in two dimensions are also included, as are improvements in systems for space-based solar power.
