Sample holder for electron microscopy
The apparatus is for use with an electron microscope, a sample, a source of high pressure gas and a vacuum pump system. The apparatus includes a holder part a body part and a Joule-Thomson refrigerator. The holder part is adapted to receive the sample and adapted to present the sample to the microscope for inspection in use. The body part defines a cavity, the cavity being evacuated by the vacuum pump system for use. The refrigerator is disposed within the cavity and thermally-coupled to the holder part, the refrigerator being coupled in use to the source of high pressure gas to maintain the sample at about a predetermined temperature.
Part for Joule-Thomson cooler and method for manufacturing such a part
A part for a Joule-Thomson cooler, comprising a gas discharge pipe and a seal closing the gas discharge pipe, the seal being capable of breaking, at least partially, under the effect of gas expansion triggered by the cooler so as to allow the gas to be discharged out of the cooler through the gas discharge pipe. The part is obtained by an additive manufacturing method that comprises stacking layers of powder along a stacking axis in order to form the part, the stacking axis being parallel to a central axis of a second gas discharge pipe separate from the first discharge pipe.

A cooling system includes a compression container with a coolant that includes a fluid. A valve is arranged on the compression container through which the coolant is released from the compression container. The cooling system further includes a component positioned to receive droplets of the coolant. The component has a surface with a three-dimensional topography that includes a plurality of pillars and a plurality of trenches. The component is an electronic component or a photoelectronic component.
REFRIGERATION SYSTEM WITH HIGH SPEED ROTARY PRESSURE EXCHANGER
A refrigeration system includes a rotary pressure exchanger fluidly coupled to a low pressure branch and a high pressure branch. The rotary pressure exchanger is configured to receive the refrigerant at high pressure from the high pressure branch, to receive the refrigerant at low pressure from the low pressure branch, and to exchange pressure between the refrigerant at high pressure and the refrigerant at low pressure, and wherein a first exiting stream from the rotary pressure exchanger includes the refrigerant at high pressure in the supercritical state or the subcritical state and a second exiting stream from the rotary pressure exchanger includes the refrigerant at low pressure in the liquid state or the two-phase mixture of liquid and vapor.
System and method for cryogenic cooling
A heat exchanger within an insulated enclosure receives primary refrigerant at a high pressure and cools the primary refrigerant using a secondary refrigerant from a secondary refrigeration system. An expansion unit within the insulated enclosure receives the primary refrigerant at the high pressure from the heat exchanger and discharges the primary refrigerant at a low pressure. A supply line delivers the primary refrigerant at the low pressure to the load and a return line returns the primary refrigerant from the load to the primary refrigeration system. A system control unit controls operation of at least one of the primary refrigeration system and the secondary refrigeration system to provide a variable refrigeration capacity to the load based on at least one of: a pressure of the primary refrigerant delivered to the load, and at least one temperature of the load.

The system furthermore comprises a second heat exchanger arranged in the cold box comprising at least a first and second heat exchanging section.
Portable instant cooling system with controlled temperature obtained through timed-release liquid or gaseous CO.SUB.2 .coolant for general refrigeration use in mobile and stationary containers
Standalone and self-contained cooling systems using compressed liquid and/or gas CO.sub.2 containers positioned in an insulated or non-insulated vessel encompassing a container which is either vertically positioned in an upright or an upside-down position. The liquid and/or gas CO.sub.2 coolant is then released into a capillary system or flow metering system to allow the CO.sub.2 to enter a second body to where the CO.sub.2 coolant properties may be leveraged. The second body includes, by way of example, a plate, a cushion, a spot treatment pad for a person's muscle, or a cooler. The temperature is controlled by a metering CO.sub.2 releasing system encompassing an electronic control device which sends alerts when pre-defined thresholds are exceeded. The invention's metering CO.sub.2 releasing system may be triggered by an electronic or a thermostatic valve or may be triggered manually or by an electronic solenoid.
