An unmanned ground vehicle having a base unit having an internal ball retention compartment, a ball picking roller configured to pick up golf balls from the ground and to deposit the picked-up golf balls into the internal ball retention compartment, at least two linked wheels, each of the at least two linked wheels driven by an independent motor and configured to move the unmanned ground vehicle around the ground, a battery to provide power to the unmanned ground vehicle, and an unmanned ground vehicle computer system. The computer system is capable of reading the route map and sending directional instructions to the independent motors in order to drive the unmanned ground vehicle along the path set out according to the route map. The system further includes a docking station configured to receive the unmanned ground vehicle upon completion of picking up golf balls according to the route map. The docking station having a golf ball receiving bin configured to receive the picked golf balls from the internal ball retention compartment and to recharge the vehicle's battery.

By repeatedly dragging the picking assembly across the surface between progressively changing points on either side of the surface, it is possible to recover golf balls from the entire surface.

Example methods include determining, by a device, an outer boundary line of a tennis court, generating a digital representation of the tennis court using the outer boundary line, where the digital representation includes at least a portion of an out-of-bounds area adjacent to the outer boundary line, determining a first location of a first tennis ball, and causing a tennis ball retrieval robot to move to the first location to retrieve the first tennis ball, where the tennis ball retrieval robot is wirelessly connected to the device.

A golf ball verification system and method is described. The illustrative golf ball verification system includes balls, bays and at least one target. Each of the balls includes a unique ID indicator. Additionally, each of the bays includes a ball dispenser, a first ball ID reader, a first diverter, and a first reject ball chute. The first ball ID reader identifies any of the balls having unreadable ID indicators. The first diverter selects any of the balls having unreadable ID indicators for collection by the first reject ball chute. Furthermore, each target includes a ball detector, a second ball ID reader, a second diverter, and a second reject ball chute. The second ball ID reader identifies any of the balls having unreadable ID indicators. The second diverter selects the balls having unreadable ID indicators for collection by the second reject ball chute.

A controller determines a position, which is obtained by reflecting, based on the positional information on the ball collector at a time point when the ball was counted by touching the count sensor, the movement distance of the ball collector from the time each ball was picked up from the ground by a ball collection wheel till the ball was counted by touching the count sensor in a direction opposite to the traveling direction of the ball collector at that time, as the actual position where each ball was picked up.

The battery and the collection container are disposed between respective axles for the front and rear wheels, and respective positions of centers of gravity of the battery and the collection container are situated in an area defined between a first tangential line tangent to an upper portion of the front wheel and an upper portion of the rear wheel and a second tangential line tangent to a lower portion of the front wheel and a lower portion of the rear wheel. This structure improves weight balance of the collector and enhances stability during travel.
