DEFROST SYSTEM
To provide a defrost system capable of preferable defrosting and prevention of generation of icicles on a casing without installing a brine circuit. A defrost system includes a thermosiphon defrost circuit that is provided by being branched from a circulation line, in which, at the time of defrosting, a CO.sub.2 refrigerant staying inside a fin-tube heat exchanger repeats a two-phase change of a gaseous form and reliquefaction, and which forms a CO.sub.2 circulation path together with the fin-tube heat exchanger; electromagnetic opening/closing valves that are closed at the time of defrosting and set the CO.sub.2 circulation path to a closed circuit; and a first electric heater arranged above the thermosiphon defrost circuit so as to be adjacent to the thermosiphon defrost circuit, and naturally circulates the CO.sub.2 refrigerant in the closed circuit at the time of defrosting.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS USING THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE
Systems and methods are provided for bimodal refrigeration, which uses a combination of mechanical refrigeration and phase change material (PCM) cells to provide cooling for one or more units of storage, such as freezers, coolers, storage or display cases, open cases (without doors), closed cases (with doors), rack systems (with compressors located remotely), self-contained refrigeration systems (with embedded compressors), in an optimal and efficient manner. In some embodiments, the systems and methods employ intelligent controls which may monitor and receive input for system conditions, time of day, and other conditions, and turn on/off the mechanical refrigeration as appropriate to provide for efficient and cost-effective use of energy.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL CART FOR A PAYLOAD
Various aspects and embodiments of a temperature control cart (100) are disclosed. The temperature control cart (100) comprises a top portion (116) with one or more wells (202), wherein the one or more wells (202) is operable to receive one or more pans (102). The wells (202) are configured to hold pans (102), wherein the pans (102) often contain a payload, such as food or medicine, that requires temperature control. Further, the top portion (116) is disposed in a tank (108) that contains phase change material (PCM). In another aspect, a method for controlling temperature of a payload is disclosed. A temperature control cart (100) is further provided with one or more heat exchangers. Wherein the one or more heat exchangers circulate a heat exchange fluid, thereby heating or cooling the PCM disposed in the tank (108) of the temperature control cart (100) to above or below a transition temperature of the PCM.

Distributor, heat exchanger, and refrigeration cycle apparatus
A distributor distributes fluid to plural fluid outlets, the fluid flowing from a fluid inlet. The distributor includes plural branching flow paths having an upstream branching flow path, and downstream branching flow paths located closer to the fluid outlets than is the upstream branching flow path, and an intermediate flow path provided between the upstream branching flow path and one or more of the downstream branching flow paths, the intermediate flow path connecting the upstream branching flow path and the at least one of the downstream branching flow paths. The intermediate flow path has one end connected to the upstream branching flow path at a position facing one of the ends of the upstream branching flow path and the other end connected to one or more of the downstream branching flow paths at a center of the downstream branching flow path, and causes the fluid flowing from the one end to change a flow direction of the fluid and then flow out of the other end.
