Gas liquefaction column
10859314 · 2020-12-08 ·

An apparatus and process for the compression, expansion, evaporation, and liquefaction of gases or gaseous mixtures consisting of a gas liquefaction column comprising successive chambers made of balloons resembling those used in pneumatic suspensions, and double-piston bases in between the upper and lower end of each chamber. Some of the double-piston bases are fixed while others in between are mobile. The group of mobile double-piston bases is activated in a linear to-and-fro vertical stroke while the other group of double-piston bases remains stationary. This results in consecutive suction and compression of the chambers, creating a Joule-Thomson effect at each of them. This results in the cooling and liquefaction of the gas or gaseous mixture. The apparatus also comprises humidity extractors, and different types of valves and piping.

A batch process for producing a purified, pressurized liquid carbon dioxide stream, includes withdrawing a liquid carbon dioxide stream (A) from a liquid carbon dioxide supply (10); introducing the liquid carbon dioxide stream (A) into a distillation column (B) having packing (C) therein, and stripping volatile impurities from the liquid carbon dioxide stream with the packing; vaporizing the liquid carbon dioxide stream (A) in a sump (D) of the distillation column (B) for providing a carbon dioxide vapor; withdrawing from a vaporized portion (F) of carbon dioxide vapor in the sump (D) a first vapor stream (G) vented from the distillation column (B); withdrawing from the vaporized portion (F) of the carbon dioxide vapor in the sump (D) a second vapor portion (H) vented from the sump into a conduit (I); and introducing the second vapor portion (H) in the conduit (I) into a carbon dioxide vapor feed stream.

TWO-STAGE LIQUID DISTRIBUTION DEVICE FOR MASS TRANSFER COLUMN
20200306720 · 2020-10-01 · ·

A two-stage liquid distribution device for use within an internal region of a mass transfer column to distribute liquid to an underlying mass transfer bed. The two-stage liquid distribution device includes a lower distributor with a lower parting box and lower troughs and an upper distributor with an upper parting box and upper troughs. The lower and upper parting boxes and troughs are enclosed to allow a liquid head in a lower downpipe section and an upper downpipe section that feed liquid to the lower distributor and the upper distributor to cause pressurization of liquid within the lower and upper parting boxes and troughs. The pressurization makes the lower and upper distributors less susceptible to rocking motion of the mass transfer column and reduces any maldistribution of liquid discharged from the lower and upper troughs to the mass transfer bed.

Coker fractionator spray wash chamber

A hydrocarbon distribution system is provided. The hydrocarbon distribution system has a vessel shell. A vapor distribution tray is disposed within the vessel shell. A first spray header and a second spray header are disposed above the vapor distribution tray. A draw system is disposed above the first and second spray headers. The hydrocarbon distribution system reduces clogging of nozzles, and improves product quality.

Distributor tray for gas/liquid exchange column with liquid deflector

The present invention relates to a distributor tray (2) for a column intended for heat and/or material exchange between a gas and a liquid. The tray comprises gas passage means (4), liquid passage means (6) and distribution means (5) for distributing the liquid with a preferred orientation. The invention also relates to a heat and/or material exchange column, and to the use of the column.

LIQUID DOUBLE DISTRIBUTION DEVICE OF USE IN PARTICULAR IN AN APPARATUS IN WHICH A LIQUID PHASE FLOWS UNDER GRAVITY

A double liquid distribution device is suitable for a fractionating or wash column comprising a high collector tray connected to a manifold support via at least two longitudinal liquid downflow ducts. The manifold support supports at least two series of transverse tubular manifolds and feeds liquid respectively to the first series of manifolds via a first longitudinal duct and to the second series of manifolds via a second longitudinal duct. Each manifold includes distribution orifices in its under face suitable for distributing the liquid onto the top face of the packing bed. The two longitudinal liquid downflow ducts are connected together in a low portion by a communication device fitted with a valve having controlled opening suitable for allowing the liquid to be transferred between the two longitudinal ducts in controlled manner.

Hybrid Tray for Introducing a Low CO2 Feed Stream into a Distillation Tower

A method of separating a feed stream in a distillation tower. Vapor is permitted to rise upwardly from a distillation section of the distillation tower. A feed stream is introduced into a controlled freeze zone section of the distillation tower, the controlled freeze zone section being situated above the distillation section. The feed stream is released above a level of a liquid retained by a melt tray assembly in the controlled freeze zone section. Vapor from the distillation section is directed into the liquid retained by the melt tray assembly. A solid is formed from the feed stream in the controlled freeze zone section.
